the normal up-charge over msrp in this area is about $4,000 and had been quoted $6,000 for the '07 Ultra.

That's obscene for those guys to upcharge those bikes that much.  Frankly I can't ever imagine a situation where I would fall for that and pay up a premium like that.

I can't imagine paying $4000-7000 over MSRP. I walked out the door with my 07 SERK for MSRP. Looks like a trend with touring models selling right away and the others sitting around. My local dealer has had a springer and two deuces on the floor for last four months.

Kinda like the one for the heritage a few years ago.  Do you guys really think HD waited till May to get the EPA approval for a 08 bike that will ship the second week in July?
I do not think it is uncommon to get EPA approvals 8 weeks before shipping.

Why does that surprise you???
Because they have had to of started gearing up vendors for production already,  what if it's not approved.  We seen these CARB reports before and nothing ever came from them.  HD dosen't make it that easy.
I'm not sold on this info yet but I would hope that HD would know exactly what the result of the test is going to be before submitting it.

Actually, California does not do the testing, the manufacturer does that and certifies the results to California.  Therefore, H-D already knows the results when they submit the paperwork to CARB for approval.

If anyone would like to look at the actual process, follow this link:  http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onroad/cert/hmcctp/hmc.pdf

And my understanding is that HD is 5 years out on the tests.

Apparently you are not alone with your opinion, at least where I live.  Two Stealers in my area each had an '07 CUSE2 sitting on their showroom floor for weeks (one as much as 6 weeks) because of their horrendous markups.  One of them wouldn't even talk trade-ins to purchase a CVO bike.  Last year, I was at one of these Stealers in the process of finalizing the purchase of an '06 Melon CUSE.  After the agreed-upon 'total impulse buy' price of $500 above MSRP (prior to signing), the owner walked-in and said he was raising the price an additional $5K.  Told him to place his botox injections on my gluts and power-walked out of the store.  He lost a pseudo-loyal customer, since I had purchased my previous bike from him.

In and around the Atlanta area there are just too many people willing (& capable) to pay those rediculous mark ups, therefore, if you want a bike you dont have much choice as most are spoken for well ahead of time!  It hacks me that the dealers do this but I guess it is the old supply - demand at work, especially since I consider myself a good and loyal customer.  When I bought the '07 it took me about 2 hours of negotiations to get a decent price (relative to MSRP)!!

The dealer I went to (western Iowa but I live across the river in NE) sells all his for MSRP.  It was actually good knowing what the price of the SERK was going in, not wondering if I could have had it for less.  Much better than the last time at another dealer when I got the Fatboy.  It was the late 90's and waiting lists were over a year someplaces; mine was eighteen months out.  Remember lotteries at dealers, lists where they'd call the next person and say there's a blue one arriving next month did they want it, and if not call the next one on the list?  They were the only one in town then and I paid $2500 over (an extra $500 for those 95th anniversary models).   Now there are two larger places in the area and I've never been back.  It took nine years, but eventually I got some scrap of satisfaction  8)

The not going back does give one a scrap of satisfaction.

They don't really notice, but you sure do.

It is great that more and more dealers realise they need to move inventory and the selling of over MSRP will indeed breed ill will.  I love it when I go into the dealership that is very close to where I live and I see three or four CVO bikes two and three years old still sitting on the floor with a huge mark up.  They treated me very badly and the satisfaction I feel seeing that helps to make up for the way they treated me and my beloved bike 2+ years ago.  Think what they have had to pay on taxes each and every year they did not sell that bike - just so they could add a markup on the bike. mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

You've gotta love the STEALERS, I wish they would all just fade away.

I talked to one of my friends in Nashville this afternoon.  He said he went by the dealer and about half the shop was locked up tighter than a drum and they weren't allowing access to anyone.  I'm sure they were hiding the 08's.

No way, they have not even had the dealer meeting and the dealers really don't truly know what is coming out until the new line up is unveiled at that meeting.  Those '08 bikes are still under wraps even from the dealers at this point.

New bikes hit the dealerships at or slightly before the dealer show.  The dealers are not permitted to display them until after the unveiling on Friday.

I saw the 2008 paint chips the other day, there is a new red and 2-tone red that is strikingly similar to the 2005 SEEG  :confused5:

Supposed I should have mentioned that it was just the colors I saw and not any graphic or paint schemes.
