Annie Bea and Springer would be there, but they won't do us much good.  Snipes are way to quick for dogs.  It takes cunning, stealth, and patience to bag these little bastards. :2vrolijk_21:

Yeah, you can shoot 'em, but actually catching them in the bag makes for better eating since you don't have to go through the trouble of removing the shot pellets from the meat.  When in the bag, it is nothing more than a neck wringing.  Then it is like plucking and cleaning a chicken. :2vrolijk_21:

Yeah, I hate when that happens! Nothing worse than stepping on a Snipe head when going to the bathroom in the middle of the night! ;D Hoist! 8)

Hmmmmm.  Howie's researching the bird.  I don't know the proper name.  To me and my folks.........they're snipe!  Plain and simple snipe.  But that picture looks like a fine specimen. :2vrolijk_21:

Well I guees it is!

SNIPE: Any of various long-billed shore birds of the genus Gallinago or Capella. A sniper was original someone who hunted snipe. A snipe isn't a particularly meaty bird, or a good-tasting one at that. It's uniqueness is in that of it's ability to escape hunters. It's considered one of the hardest small-prey to hit. So called "snipers" originally hunted the bird for practice, for bigger game. Eventually, many a hunter targetted the bird for honor and bragging rights, and this lead to sniping tournaments.

The definition of "Sniper" has changed a lot since then, but still based on the same idea of stalking and scouting, while the acheiving your ultimate goal of taking out your target (mostly from a concealed location, long range).
