From the parts list I made I could see old part numbers for cables and switches going out to the handlebars. There is one new interface cable that ends with 06 which means its new . The way it is layed out looks like it interconnects the modules inside of the fairing. I usually buy the electrical diagnostic manual with each bike. This 06 manual will be an encyclopedia when it comes out. The only disconcerting thing I read so far is HD is saying at least the main radio is dealer installed and no mention yet of retrofitting
What's the big deal ? power, antenna, and a few control wires with some speakers. Just hope they reused that cable ( without looking at print)J3 connector's pinout's so it picks up speed control for the auto volume fuction and a couple of others. Once somebody get's the new schematics it will end the guessing.

Twolane, the new radio has a "nav" button along with the intercom and com or cb button. I checked with our parts guru and he said it was a plug in module that has gps and similiar features to the just released unit that attaches to the fairing. He cautioned me that this is so new its not in the 06 parts catalogue and he could be wrong. I am still trying to figure why it won't retrofit (according to H-D) to the earlier models....like my 05!

Ok, I want this stupid radio more and more all the time now.  Any nav option better be voice based though.  Anything other than an arrow quadrant in that small display screen would be tough to use.  Can't see it supplanting the 2620 up on the handlebars but, hey, there's nothing the matter with redundant systems backups  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] .  And it would be cool.

Ok, just went back to the HD webside and grabbed the image of the radio from the touring section again.  Cropped it down to the controls and blew it up a bit.  The "Nav" button is right there on the bottom left.  All the handy little arrow keys on the other side could easily be used to key thorough number and letter displays or move around a map grid.

You realize what all this means don't you (speaking to everyone of course).  HD has made it so easy for so long to complain about so much of the stupid stuff they do and don't do.  Staying behind the curve on many things.  Arrogance like the Chinese with a bad case of Middle Kindgom complex.  And oh so many other things.  But this radio they (through their subcontractor) might actually have gotten right.  It's almost... well.... unsettling to think they can really still just nail something.  Kinda gives a guy hope that the next 20 years isn't just a slowly accelerating counter-rotation down a toilet bowl after all  [smiley=7.gif] [smiley=beerchug.gif]

Was just thinking of the various switchable controls and mixes of control functions some of the radio functions could entail.  Does anyone KNOW that the handlebar controls are the same from 05 to 06?  I mean not just look the same from the outside; but actually are the same?

Could the NAV button be just for voice commands through the radio? I don't recall when I installed it if there was an extra wire but on my HD GPS unit, they could feed the audio inside the fairing to the new radio...I know on the Radar Detector mount there was definately an extra wire for "future expansion"

My dealer showed me the new radio and some of the functions on a Street Glide.  The navigation gives voice commands and you can scroll thru the functions by using the hand controls just as years past.  The way he explained it you could be listening to music and if you were coming up to a turn that was preset in your navigation trip set up the music would lower volume and the instructions to turn would be played thru the speakers.  There is also a map display function but agreed that is a really small screen.

The dyno thread in the SEEG section actually leads in the "views" category with 20356 (as of this writing), but it only has 383 posts.

Here is at least a partial hint as to physical fitment.  The new paint to match inner fairings that Harley has started to offer are listed as being correct for 04 to 06 model bikes.  So we should be safe in assuming that at least the front face dimensions are the same.  Doesn't speak to interior mounting at the bracket points.  But it's something.

I just ordered a CVO Ultra this week. Couldn't resist. Was already thinking about a new Ultra, but by the time I get it set up the way I want, I would be in the upper 20's.  Then I saw the SE bike and figured that it wasn't really that bad a deal. There's a few things I dont like ( leather tour pack) but overall, it suits my needs pretty well. It's not lowered like past SE EG's, and the new stereo is is the cats meow.  I have XM on my 03 glide and like it. I love winter riding so the seat and grips being heated will be nice also. Delivery date looks to be the first week of Sept for a Black/charcoal color. I'm excited.  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Yes this is a sickness...you get a new bike partly because of the new radio, I Love it! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Oh yeah, completely and totally warped.  And I've already had the same thought....  "Gee, if the radio can't be made to work in the red bike I wonder what the bike would sell for......"   But then I b*tch slap myself and it's better again for a few hours.....

The sickness has been rationalized and deemed acceptable by too many people to deny. My name is Jerry and I have CVO- iz -zim life is much better since I have accepted my disease.
Just open the wallet and pay whatever it takes. I just hope cat food prices do not skyrocket in a few years when I retire because that's what I'll be eating. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
