The Advanced Audio specific website makes no mention of updated data discs for sale.  Harley being what they are they'd likely be selling the product if there was such a thing.

Might be that it's not a big secret.  Just that no update has been released yet.  Just because new roadbeds have been laid doesn't mean the publisher is going to quickly rush out new data discs.

Whose nav software is Harmon Kardon using?  Garmin's or one of the others?  National road updates to include every local project just isn't an every-year kind of thing.  Would be nice.  But it's not the norm.

Garmin has City Navigator updates yearly (map software in the GPS units) at a cost ($75). Mapsource updates (software on computer to create maps/trips to load on GPS unit) are free to users that have registered the software. I was told that the minor updates in the City Navigator program may not be worth the yearly updates. :nixweiss:

The company that produces the disks for Harmon-Kardon is a company called Innovative Systems.  The navigation/database engine though, is by the same company that does it for just about every GPS manufacturer out there; Navteq.  The mapping programs typically run about 2 years behind.  It's a very involved process to update a GPS database program.  All new roads have to be driven and coordinates mapped into the database engine.  Multiple points have to be entered to give an accurate portrayal on the screen of the road being traveled.  The fact that the information on the HK disks is 2005 doesn't suprise me.  I would venture a guess that HD/HK will come out with a new disk in 2008.  It took three years for Alpine to put out a new one for my Honda, and Alpine hasn't come out with a new one for my 2006 Dodge pickup yet.  But like d00d says, Garmin comes out with a new one pretty much every year, but even that doesn't give you the most current data.  The new road outside of my housing development took about 2 years to show up on my Garmin disks.

I chucked my Harley nav system. The map files are so old and/or lacking that roads around here are missing that have been here for decades. It's pretty obvious that Harley/HK are not paying for good maps. I guess if you only travel major highways, it might me OK. But is that where we really ride? Not me...

I gave up on it and got a Zumo....  >:(

It's all driven by the MoCo, or the car manufacturer, if they pay to have their poprietary disc updated it will be.  Otherwise NAVTEQ is in the drivers seat an you get the old disk.

NAVTEQ does three of my four manufacturers and it's a rip off IMHO.

I don't think Navtech is doing Harley's maps. Zumo, yes...
