What is you Bike Buying Personality:
« on: January 26, 2005, 04:26:30 PM »

After looking through the marketplace and seeing the scope of the bikes for sale I began to wonder why there are so many recent model bikes.

Personally, I am more of a Buy and Hold...my first Harley was a 1997 FLHRI, I sold that Dec. 2003 and bought the '04 SEEG.  The SED is now 2 seasons old and I have no plans on selling.

I too am a Buy and Hold Guy [smiley=beerchug.gif]. I believe that the amount of NEwer bikes for sale is related to the Economy..... I recently picked up a 2000 Dyna Lowrider for My Wife with 375 miles on it..... The Guy bought it with Market Money, just to have one and only rode it a couple of weekends than parked it. With the amount of New Bikes at the Dealers for sale, The Wave has Crested and the wannabeee's are moving on. Buy and Hold.  I have no plans to change. I tend to get attached to things that I have wrenched on. Hell, I've had my old truck since 82, my old chevy since 85 and my old lady since 81, and I've wrenched on all of them.....lots! But I really like my bike, and I don't want to change.

Buy and hold has always been the plan. But something better has always seem to come along. I kept my last bikes for as long as possible but not being able to afford all of the toys I had to settle for the SEEG. I don't think this one will ever get sold!!!!

Buy and hold.  I have an 03 Deuce we rode to Milwaukee and in the 100th parade...will never sell it.  I love the SEEG just as much.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

hd-dude said it better than I could have; I'd have loved to have kept my last bikes for as long as possible but not being able to afford all of the toys or the garage to hold them all, I have to settle for the SEEG. I don't think this one will ever get sold!!!!  [smiley=laugh.gif]

I am still trying to convince my wife that we should build a 3-1/2 bay garage and convert our existing one into a family room...mucho dinero not yet set aside for this task  The more I squeeze her in, the latest being the generator, the more convinced she is.  Someday...

Put me down in the Buy and Hold column.  There are other bikes out there that I admire, the Deuce in particular, but I'm still thrilled with my 1999 FXR2.  In fact, I find that with every passing year, it seems to get more and more unique and attractive, to me, anyway.  I've never seen another on the street.  Plus, it's long since paid for. [smiley=7.gif]

I honestly can't think of a thing that I would gain by buying a newer, faster, bigger, whatever bike.  This one fits me and  my wants/needs just fine.

Of course, that doesn't keep me from enjoying the showroom now and then. [smiley=7.gif]

Buy and sell, they are just toys as I see it, just turns out that they hold their value pretty well. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
I get bored with the same scooter after about 2 seasons and always feel like keeping the one I have but it always ends up collecting lots of dust in the garage so I battle with it intellectually then the finanacil side of me wins, sells and invests elsewhere. My seeg was my first ever "brand new" harley, always went hunting for a bargain, bought my 2001 dyna WG for 4k (wrecked) sold it for 11k [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]
Although I gotta say that I like the SEEG enough right now to keep for a while longer (it is only been about 9 months) I could change my opinion in the coming years.

Solidly....Buy and Sell.  Buy specialized (prior to CVO) or currently CVO bikes from one of several Northern dealers on the coldest, most snowy or icy day in dead of winter below MSRP to assist them with their minimal off season cash flow.   [smiley=laugh.gif]  Offload retail into the Southeast or CA market mid season.  Put profit in pocket and buy more toys!!!!

My heart says buy & hold & I used to do that but, nowadays with everything getting better, nicer, more convenient, technology, etc.  I've been buying & selling in the last three years.  Only time will tell & the wife complaining that her Burb is sitting outside 'cause the garage is full of bikes (dirt & street)  Sorry hun!
