Paint problems 2008
« on: July 24, 2007, 05:15:38 AM »

Well they started out the year with bad paint, guess that mean they can only get better. :confused5:  The new bike has bad orange peel and prints in the paint.  So far the are replacing the front fender, outer fairing, tank, tour pak lid, and both saaddle bag lowers.  Woner if it will take a year to get it right this time?

Man not sure I would have taken delivery with those paint conditions.  Makes me wonder if the other non-cvo baggers have these conditions but folks just don't closely inspect them at delivery.

Did you consider just passing on the bike?

magoo,

Sorry to hear of your issues, hopefully they'll straighten everything out a lot quicker than your previous experience.

You know, the finger prints in the paint thing was pretty common on the '05's also, back when Caliber was doing the paint.  If 2lane is right, and the MoCo went back to them for the '08's, they need to find the friggin' idiot who doesn't understand "keep your hands off the paint" and take him out back for a little one-on-one retraining.  Anybody got a leftover can of "whoop ass" they can borrow?

I agree with Road-Glider.....leave the bike with the dealer and give them the keys back.  My prediction is the bag lowers will not match the tops when they come back.  You will always be looking........This is CRAP.

That painter and that 110" engine builder, both! ;)

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes with the new bike Dave. With only 10 miles and all these issues, isn't there any discussion of replacing the bike completely? I'd be pushing for that as my solution. This one sounds like a Monday bike. I agree with Warren and RG. Tell them, at this point, you want a Wednesday bike! ;)

I know you feel bad enough as it is and I am not being smart.  With the mod's you had done to your 06, I think I would want it back.   Or I would tell them to keep the 08 and wait for the next one.  The sad thing is that the same old mistakes are being made by the MOCO.    >:(

As long as they save more money putting them together this way vs. all the w.....ty costs they incur, they'll never change. We'll continue to be their testing grounds. ??? Hoist! 8)

Jerry, maybe they can pour some of this in the appropriate hole to straighten them out.

Sorry for the hassles Dave, but glad you now know to look for those type issues early on.  A lot of us thought the '06's were fine to begin with until closer inspection.

They should order a COMPLETE new set so it will match.

Bike needs new skin all over.

Hope its resolved quickly.

OH NO!!!!!! :o :o :o  Not this nightmare again.............for the third year in a row!!!!  You'd think they'd find a paint contractor who could do it right.  Now I'm really happy I'm keeping my melon.  Certainly don't need these headaches again.  Whew!!!!!!
