I agree, since the problem didn't repeat with the second filter it's unlikely to be a problem with the case machining or oil cooler adapter, etc.   If the original filter is still available, and the MoCo is the least bit interested, they could test it to be sure.  I'm very doubtful that they would be interested, but I think if it were me I'd document the problem with them and keep the original filter as evidence just in case.

Jerry, it's the only thing that makes any sense within the context of his descriptions.  Though I'm still a bit surprised the filter would be as empty as he described.  Usually those valves bypass nearly all rather than all the volume.  But if it was in some way screwed up in manufacturing it is at least a possibility.  And it would match what he's seen.

I do still have the old filter. I would probably doubt what has happened if someone else told me but seeing it myself I know it was true. I started the engine and let it warm up. then shut it off and went in the house to let it all settle down. I drained the pan on the lift and let it drain a good 15 minutes as I was changing the type oil. I don't know if that had any effect on it or not. I am still puzzled. Thanks for all the input. Ray

Ain't that fun.......squeezin' your hand and working (blindly) in a hole you can't see in to R&R that seat back. >:(

Switch to a Mustang backrest! Easy in/out and looks better! :)

HD...........You're responding to a quite old post from about 3 1/2 years ago or more.   I did in fact purchase a Mustang seat with the back rest as you and others have mentioned.   You're quite right in that it is easy in and out.   Problem to me was it was TOO easy to move and hold the selected position (up and down).   Those "detents" are not deep enough to keep the back rest from sliding down below where ya had it,  if you apply any pressure to it while dismounting.

So,  being as clever as I am,  I decided to tighten up the "set screw" that goes into the "detent".   Quickly discovered that it was NOT quite the kind of setscrew arrangement I had expected.   I thought the hole thru the backrest brkt was threaded and the nut around the setscrew acted as a "locknut"........... :confused5:

Nope,  the nut was tacked to the chrome backrest brkt,  and I easily broke it off thinking it was riding freely on the threads of the screw itself.

Soon after this incident, came the M. Beach Bike Rally and Mustang Seat Company was there.   They "warranted" the set screw problem I had and the guy said I was the second one with the same problem that he met up with on the same day.  Furthermore,  that he had worked for Mustang for over 10 years and never had seen that problem before.   At the time it occurred I was well beyond a normal warranty period...........so hats off to Mustang for helping me out.

have since sold the bike and now considering if I want to get a custom seat of some sort for my new Street Glide Special. (2014).

this might help....... break the filter loose and slip a piece of tin foil under filter long enough to direct oil between frame and floor board mounts, hole punch filter to drain is a +.

Just get a quart milk jug and cut it in half like a canoe.  Leave the bottom half end on, and add a notch where the filter bracket goes.  Slide it under the filter and rotate it so the notch lines up with the bracket.  Loosen the filter and watch the oil run down the tray you built into a cake pan.  No oil spill at all.

Ive had it for 3 years, no dislikes, only good things to say about it and the vendor. Oil changes are quick and mess free.

Thanks for the info... looks like a product that would eliminate the messy oil changes. :2vrolijk_21:

Pricey, but - if the horizontal kit included finished braided lines, that would be something to consider. Not liking the hose clamp assembly.

Vendor says braided lines are to abrasive, harley braided lines have a coating on them. Hose clamps that he uses are the best to use other than a an style connector.

I don't think the MSP relocate is "pricey". The guy did a lot of fitting, testing, and material evaluation over a lot of miles on his own bike(s) before going public. He's a stand up guy, and bends over backwards to take care of customers.

I don't have this modification,  but going "vertical" would certainly make it less messy........check it out.

http://www.jerrysrigssystems.com/press.php

I have been running this system for three years now, The last year on my S&S T-124 engine. I like the fact i can fill the oil filter prior to installing it. Never had any problems or mess with this system.
