It's a secret... ;)  Nothing is going to happen until I see what taxes are like this year.  I'm thinking I'll get a pretty nice refund I can use towards reworking old parts and adding some new ones in there too.  Still in the anal retentive research phase at this point...

I want the powder/diamond cut, but just don't know if the funds will be available to go that far.

I think Henry should get his jugs/heads powdercoated GREEN with the Diamond cut.... :mango: :cucumber: 8)

Barry has talked about doing that to his watermelon at some point.  The diamond cut stands out so well against a darker background.  I think a dark or at least dark-ish green background with the diamond cut facets on its edge would look outstanding.  Same with with your darker color.  A real good contrasting background for the pop of the diamond cut.

You do your research TC.  But don't keep it a secret.  Enquiring minds will want to know  :2vrolijk_21: .

Well...I know for sure the motor won't be just a 103, but just ever so slightly larger, just to ensure everything is squared back up properly.  No radical compression ratios.  No case splitting.  Head work will be the main thing, but I'm keeping my badges on the heads (thanks to some spare parts I have  ;) ) They will definitely be welded up and dramatically improved.  A better cam plate will be in the bike for sure, and in the process that part of things will be more stable and reliable. Gear drives, for sure.  New TB...size depends on final results on the heads/compression/cam. New injectors. The RH's will stay on, regardless.  Probably those new pushrods Steve is producing, along with his lifters. Pistons TBD.  With what I've got in mind, I don't think the puking oil will be an issue, but the Myst Free's might be a possibility as well.

It's all just going to be top end work, unless I've got crank problems, then HD is going to pick up that cost if I've got anything to do with it.  Really, just a mild build.  Not looking for huge numbers...something in the 115-125 range, but much quicker revving and cooler running.  Wouldn't mind a 6 speed, but funding may not allow that, and with the way I typically ride, the 5 speed works quite well.

I'd like to powder the jugs in the charcoal/slate color, but again, the funds will determine what I do there.  Anybody want to contribute to the cause?  ;D

Suzanne and I got a spreadsheet done on all the parts that have been added to Wanda June...I knew it was a lot, but I about chit.  But, this bike is a keeper for me, so it doesn't matter.  I'll just keep replacing parts as they wear out, and keep riding it.  Cheaper than buying a new one, and it's taken me a year to get the bike comfortable, safe, and performing the way I like it to, so the motor, whatever is done, will just be gravy and for long term, no worries, riding.  If I want folks to just see my tailpipe, I've got a bike for that, so the ultra doesn't have to be a hot rod.  Both my bikes are long term keepers...they just "fit", if you know what I mean.

Henry's bike is going to be NICE when he gets done with it...our builds will probably be very similar.

All great runing builds start with planning . Do the home work get a package that works together not just parts you are bolting on. When everything works together the engine is happy, runs cool, smoother, and makes great power in the rpm range you decide you want it in.  Then all you get to do is smile as the miles pass under the tires :2vrolijk_21:

Got up REAL early this morning.  Wanted to go out and check the green bike, which I had tied down in the trailer the night before at 11pm.  Good thing too.  Wasn't straight.  Left the house at 4:30am headed south.  Coffee ran dry before I got to I-65.........but there aint nuthin past Greenbriar Road, so had to stop in Priceville for more coffee.......and again in Cullman for food....and more coffee.  Got through Birmingham before the traffic got heavy.  By the time I got to Montgomery, it was time to get rid of some of that coffee.  Picked up I-85N to AL 271 to US 231S.  Got into Midland City around 9:30am.  Unloaded the bike and spent some time talking with Red, so I could better understand everything we're doing.  I understand the engineering, but I have to leave the rest of it to those MUCH more knowledgeable than me.  Red is a great guy.  If you ever find yourself in the area, you should pay him a visit.  His place is sorta easy to fly by......but for those of you who navigate with GPS, you should be fine.  It isn't marked by anything except "NO TRESPASSING" signs.  BTW, when you see signs like that in Alabama, it is best to heed the warning and call ahead.  :2vrolijk_21:  Great facility down there in Midland City.  Red has a great shop.  Really looking forward to this build.  Gonna be down for about a month, which is probably going to drive me more insane than I already am.  Red will know about runout before the weekend is out.  I'll be on pins and needles until then.  Anyway, this is what Red tells me we're doing:

107 kit, JE forged pistons, rings, pins, and clips
GMR CNC heads, 1.9 intake 1.625 exhaust
Cometic gasket set  .030 head
GMR bored throttle body
GMR  Hi-Flow injectors
GMR 525 cams
GMR billet cam plate, new style oil pump, cam case cover
Andrews complete gear drive kit
GMR 4130 chrome moly pushrods
Pushrod tubes for adjustable pushrods
HD lifters
GMR installed compression releases

Whaddya think?  I'm impressed.  Can't wait!

Here's one final picture of Ol' Thumper as a 103.  Took this today shortly after she was unloaded and rode into the shop.  Damn she's a Purdy Girl!  Next month, she's gonna be a FAST PURDY GIRL!!!!!!  :2thumbsup:

See ya!

Henry (Reggab),

Wondering what was the deciding factor to go to a 107 or why not go to a 113 since your doing all of this?

Just curious what the thought process behind this was, when you consider that the 107 is not much bigger than the 103.

Looking forward to hearing you got a rocket and your happy with it,

sorry to jack the question. henry asked for a super reliable/powerful/stock looking build that fit into a pre-determined  budget. working with his requests during the customer interview, this is the build that best fit.

Harry,
Like Red said, my first priority is reliability.  Now, I'm always open to learning, so please feel free to teach.  That said, it is my understanding that 113 requires case boring to allow 113 spigot fitment.  Case boring equates to less metal, which would otherwise provide more strength.....thus decreasing reliability.  As for speed, to be honest, the green bike is plenty fast for me and Renea as she is right now..........or was yesterday........whatever.  Anyway, if in the process of increasing the reliability of the green bike, a performance increase is achieved, I'm certainly not going to shun.  Be it known that I have no aspirations of rising to the HBRR level, though I enjoy reading the adventures of HUBBARD, S/B, and other members of that fine institution.  BTW, congratulations on your recent induction.  Anyway, HBRR is not the goal.  As long as I can catch up with you guys at the next gas stop in a reasonable period of time.......and make the whole trip without worry of engine failure......I'm cool with that.  As for cost, yeah, there's a budget.  We all deal with that.  Further, I needed to leave a cushion within that budget in the event runout was out of tolerance.  If runout is in......BONUS.  More coin for other stuff like a better suspension.  Ol' Thumper is a traveling machine.  She can hold her own with her own kind......and that's fine with me.   :2vrolijk_21:  Thanks for asking.

Henry,

I never expected this to be an all out power build so to speak and that wasn't what I was asking you, I was asking more why you made the choices you did to go to 107 vs. staying 103 or an alternative.   I was really after the thought process that went on behind the build.   The thought process and decision tree is as important as the choice of hardware in my opinion as it sets the goals and the what your looking forward to.

Do you have a backup plan in regards to the cam choice if it happens that it is not what you want or does not produce the numbers / power range your looking for.    I ask that because when I did the testing for Zippers on the 575 cams they sent 2 cams  the 575 and the 344 to us for testing and one really did work out obviously it was the 344 test cam.  Not all designs work out yet while they look good in simulaton and idea the actual results maybe fantastic or they could need some fine tuning.

Heard from Red when I was out looking for some work clothes this afternoon.  He said my initial dyno pull was 83HP/87TQ.  So that's where I am now.  It'll be interesting to see where I end up when this is all said and done.  He let the bike cool and checked runout.  .0022"  Man am I relieved!  In jest, he also said he was scared to work on my bike.  Said he'd never seen a bike with a clean swingarm!   ;D  He also said the only time his hands got dirty was when he pulled off the cam cover and got oil on his hands.   :D  OK, maybe I am just a little OCD (that's obsessive/compulsive disorder :huepfenlol2:) with my green bike.   8)  So now we wait and let Red work his magic.  This is gonna be cool.  I'll post updates as Red gives them to me.  There will be some inprogress pictures as well.  Stand by!!!

Harry, again, numbers/power aren't top priority.  Reliability is the criteria upon which Red and Steve made decisions for this build.  Any increase in torque/power is going to keep the smile on my face.  I left parts decisions to Red and Steve based on my reliability requirements.  If Red wants to tweak when he is nearing the end of the build, that's fine by me.  I'm way out of my league when it comes to the reciprocating engine knowledge level of people like you, Red, Steve and so many others on this forum, hence, I leave those decisions to the experts doing the build.........in this case, Red and Steve.
