I have had my City Nav V8 sitting on my desk for a few "months" (don't ask) and tried to load it 2 days ago.  After putting the disc in, it prompted me to input my 25 digit passcode and then the screen popped up to say I had successfully unlocked the Maps.  Then 2 prompts later I kept getting an internet connection error.  My ID and password did not work on the new Web Site. :sauer005:
Called Cust Service and the first operator said after the upgrade to the new site, some folks were affected so she set up a new log in and then pushed the call up to a techie who said that since there is a newer version of the disc out the system will not let me load my v8 and she would send out the newer version "for free"! :nixweiss:  :huepfenjump3:
She said I would still be able to access the older version 7. but would have to wait for the newer version that is expected to ship out next week.  Maybe it's some sort of "glitch" but it will be a costly one for them if the freebies continue to be available.

On a related note:   Can you reload the GPS back to the original condition if you have deleted certain parts that you now want back?  Is there a way to do that?

I would only think if you have it backed up, or someone has the same model GPS as the one you want to restore w/all versions of software the same. What I've done is backed up all files on the main drive of my Zumo to two different places (PC hard drive/External HD). Whenever I update my Zumo and am sure everything is running as it should I then backup the newest version that is stored on the units HD.

When I plug it into the my PC by way of USB port it's recognizing two drives in it. The SD card and what I'm calling a Hard Drive. :nixweiss:

Good News! Two days ago I got my Map Update 2008 disc.

It had a sticker on the back with the code number to register and download it as well. It downloaded to my computer in about 5 minutes and then it took an hour to download to the Garmin 2720. I just checked and this download did NOT affect my custom POIs such as the files for Harley Dealers.

So bottom line is I got this City Navigator North America NT Map Update 2008 for -  FREE.  at the Garmin website once I registered as an owner with the GPS serial number.  :2vrolijk_21:

Got mine today, but haven't updated yet. Glad to hear it's a simple process and everything remains after update. :2vrolijk_21:

I never was able to order the update via the WEB, the website always tried to charge me $69.99.  I just called Garmin after seeing the new posts and got the free update, no problem.  They gave me an order number and told me the update was currently on backorder and I should get it in about 3 weeks.  Thanks for reminding my guys!  :2vrolijk_21:

One of the most awesome features of the Zumo is that you can export your routes as .gpx formats and the your buddies can put them on an SD disk and load them in his Zumo. I have over 3000 routes on one SD disk and can import any one on a quick stop.

My update was delivered today.  Took them just a bit over two weeks to get it here from a postal site one or two days away.  Whether they're just slow or only recently finally had product to release I don't know.  But it's here now though.
