Posted mine in a different thread, but decided to add it here too. Bothe front and rear head gaskets shot. Replaced last week with 07A gaskets ( dealers in Canada not in HD knowledge loop). Waiting for next leak.

You might not be in a bad spot at all. In the time it takes for the leak to show up again, we should know more about the mystery change that has been rumored. We should be hearing some good stuff soon as this change is going into production in a couple of weeks and then will be available for repairs.

Can you elaborate on this?  Are they testing the fix on new production first? If this is the case, results will not be obvious for a long time.  I would think they would test with us as they usually do.

I wish I could. Information has been hard to come by on this one. This is the same information UltraFXR posted about a few weeks ago. There IS something coming and it does address the leak issue and is related to the cylinder / head / head gasket area, but that's all I've got.

I have been told since last Fall that all the right people, way up the chain at HD, were working on the problems with the 110s. That's a lot of horsepower to put into a program and only produce an 'A' and 'B' gasket revision.  :nixweiss:

I can only imagine the gasket was a cheap, stop-gap measure while the real fix was in the works. I think we have been fed enough information from inside, about the gaskets, to keep us feeling like we were in the loop, while all along, we've been outside being handed free lollipops while the real work was being done deep in the recesses of the PDC. :nixweiss:

I hope I'm right, but honestly have no knowledge of any specifics. HDs really good about keeping secrets when they want to.

Jeez Louise
Bought my Screaming Buzzard Oct 07. Did not check this site first. Big mistake. Yesterday(5-4-08) tripped 4998 miles and guess what is leaking. Rear Jug. Anyone who has any info please email me at russellejackson@hotmail.com. I am going to dealer this afternoon.

Russell,

Welcome to the club. It's a bummer to find the leak, hopefully yours ain't that bad. You're coming into the game at a not so bad time as I hope we're nearing the end. If you go with a simple gasket replacement, make sure they use 16801-07B gaskets and specifically request them to check the cylinder liners to see if they have raised up at all.

Let us know how it all works out.

I would also pick the brains of the SM regarding how much they have dealt with this and if they claim yours is the first they've seen, STRONGLY encourage them to get in touch with tech services to get educated on the subject.

I ditto that sentiment.  When I received my replacement engine, Jan 08, I was informed that it had all the engine updates on gaskets. This is was forwarded to me by my SM from MOCO. Keep your SM in the loop.

Have read of this prospective "fix" or "next change" several times now.  Where'd the notion originate?

Seemed to start from someone saying there needed to be one followed by someone else telling him the "dealer told him" there was something new coming.  That's pretty flimsy evidence.  Especially considering Harley's history with information and its dissemination.

Was there more I'd missed? Or are all the 110 guys just being especially optimisitic right now.  Hate to think you're all really expecting the SE Servicar.

So far, so good. New cylinder at 8,000, the new head gaskets installed at 10,300 miles now has 16, 800 miles, including a trip to York pulling a trailer up the Blue Ridge Parkway, new ACR system, second starter......bike starts great, runs great, no signs of oil leaking anywhere.  Have had no problems since repairs at 10,300 miles.  Hopefully I'm finished with the leaky cylinder syndrome ;D Summer will tell riding around here in Florida with higher engine temps.

I've been thinking about my conversation with the dealer that I bought my ride from. One particular response sticks out. I specifically asked him about the leaks and head gasket problems. He didn't deny it, but his response was, as he looked at me in that tone of voice, maybe your bike was built with the problem already resolved. I guess time and miles will tell.  :nixweiss: That's why I asked in another post if you could tell which gasket was installed without any disassembly. It may be the fix is in, who knows...... I don't know enough about these engines to see any subtleties.

I would think that if you had the old metal laminated gasket, the "hold together" rivets would be viewable between the fins of the cylinder and the head.  If you have the composite gasket, may the "A" or "B" gasket, you would NOT see the rivets visible between the fins.

Just a thought that someone might try.  I've not looked at my 110" yet.  But I can say that on my new Ultima 113" motor, it has the rivets sticking out both front and back of the head gasket.  So at least in my case it's metal with "maybe" some composite material in the middle, don't know though.

If we go back to the beginning of time with the Chevy V-8, it's not uncommon to have multi layer metal gaskets on the heads.  It really depends on what you prefer, you can get composite or metal.  Usually metal will bump your compression because the crush dimension it thinner than on the composite gaskets.  It is just a matter of how many head bolts you have and their position.  On my old blown 392 hemi, there were only 4 bolts per cylinder.  I tried O-rings in the heads and a solid copper gasket, but I couldn't get enough crush out in my oil drain back holes or the water jacket holes and the gaskets leaked.  I took out the copper gaskets and O-rings and used a composite head gasket with a light spray of Copper Coat on both sides of the gasket.  These did not leak, even under the added pressure of the 6:71 blower.

Sorry for rambling again.

Dan you are 100% correct. My original and second sets had the rivets on the side and were very easy to see. On the "new and inproved" -07B (-07AJ ;D) gasket there are no rivets sticking out the sides.

Call a call from the dealer today on my second repair. Didn't get too many details, just replaced the O-ring for the jug (2nd time) and replaced the head gasket. Not sure which gasket they used. Will ask question when I pick her up this weekend.
I don't even know if they checked to see if the liner moved. I guess I should hurry up and blow it up again so I can stand in line for "The real fix" that's coming.

Well the dealer is working (supposedly) on my bike. He said he had the latest and greatest gaskets from MOCO. I was supposed to go to bike week in SC this weekend. Dealer said he does not loan bikes. Sheltons Harley in Smithfield has dissapointed me. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll have it back by the fall rally. I must say for a 30 thousand dollar bike I am dissapointed. Wished I'd a kept my 2004 Road King.  :worthless:
