You're correct as far as I know.  My understanding is that the ECM on the closed loop bikes will adjust itself.  So I assumed the mapping had been done on mine from the factory to be cooler then the previous 110s.  Then I read where som of the other '08s where still hot so I'm guessing I'm just lucky.  If it helps mine was 7/20/08 for a manufacture date.

As far as telling me about it running hotter, I know the dealer quite well and they know me.  They're aware I know about the heat issues with these motors and we've had a lot of discussion about it.  The original plan was I'd run it through break in and then have it remapped to run cooler, even if it hurt performance and mileage.  I'm not looking to fly and it has plenty of power for me so I wasn't worried.  I knew between remapping and the heat management download I could get it cool enough to not be an issue.  Then I picked it up and voila!  No heat issue. :huepfenjump3:

I'm just waiting to hit 5000-10000 to see if the head gasket issue pops up since it has seemed to be mostly on bikes that have run extermemly hot.

Understand that these bikes do NOT run in closed loop mode all the time.  The parameters under which they go into closed loop are very specific.  The ECM is able to compensate for SMALL changes in air flow/air density due to normal conditions encountered while riding at sea level compared to mountains, south florida humidity compared to Arizona, etc.  It is in no shape, form, or fashion a self tuning ECM, other than those narrow parameters...all within the EPA required emissions.

Also remember that the heat management enable/disable download is more for RIDER comfort than engine protection, as are the plastic heat shields HD has come out with.

Thanks for the info on the closed loop mode!  I did not know that.  I was told that it does compensate and a remap is not necessary for just the A/C, but would be required for A/C and pipes or anything more significant like cams, etc.

The heat management only is for rider comfort, but the ECM can be remapped to run coolor over all.  There is some leeway to run it a bit richer.... According to what I've been told. :nixweiss:

You MIGHT be able to get away with just the A/C, if you do not put a more open exhaust system on the bike, as it will only suck in as much as it can blow out, so total flow might not be affected...however, knowing that the bike is already lean to start with, that is something I would want to be certain about before proceeding.  Be mindfull that I beleive very little of what any dealer says on these bikes, unless I'm talking to the most knowledgable tech they have in the shop...even then, I would be skeptical, as they do not see very many CVO bikes, so cannot possibly know all the in's and out's.  This site is your best source of information about these bikes, bar none.  Not enough people have the 08's yet to know much about what, if any, changes have been made to the systems, but that knowledge base will quickly develop here.

The ECM is able to compensate for enviornmental changes, but when you start messing with total air flow into and out of the engine, it cannot compensate enough for those kinds of changes.  The SE A/C allows a fairly significant amount of increased intake air.

If it were my bike, I'd get a SERT and have it tuned with the A/C and pipes I want on the bike.  If you want to break in with stock stuff, then make the changes at the 1K service, that would be a good way to go.

You can make the bike run richer/cooler, but it will take a SERT to do that, and a proper dyno tune.  SERT is the only thing available at this time, and at this point I don't think anyone knows what can/cannot be done to the ECM with the SERT.

Will the chrome back plate fit the 08 SE Ultra Pn #29510-05? I just got the new SE catalog and it doesn't show as an 08 part. The dealer naturally didn't know. I see that some of you have already installed the plate with a spacer so I assume it will fit. I am I correct? Thanks

Was it the chili dog or cheesburger and fries analogy from the other thread that brought you to this conclusion?  :o
