Hoist,

I am definitely looking forward to the day you let us all know the perfect build on these engines. I know you have all ready put alot of effort and cash in to this project, but like you said it is a labor of love. I'm all ready stashing away monies to be allocated for just that purpose. It is a shame that they are dragging feet at Harley to make these engines the reliable machines they should be considering everyones investment, as well as Harleys reputation. Whatever the numbers may be, 20,000 angry people can make an incredible difference in the way a company is perceived. Best of luck to all!

Flyndyna

Thanks for the encouragement Flyn! I understand exactly what you're referring to. Making this thing strong and reliable, while producing decent performance has been my goal from day one. Didn't realize this would be so involved. I didn't necessarily need to do the bottom end over. But with all the issues some have seen on the bottom end, I felt it was necessary to do the ENTIRE engine from scratch to get that reliability I'm after.

So starting with new cases with Timkin conversion, race forged flywheels and rods, the strong performance parts I've already used on the top end, and converting to gear drive cams, will allow me to finally accomplish my goal. It's not like we have many choices. You can't but a replacement engine from anyone but HD. You can't buy cases from anyone but HD. Yet their parts and QC appear to be JUNK! And their dealers don't necessarily have the experience or tools to rebuild them properly. They got us by the short hairs, unless we go the drastic route of blowing off their w.....ty, and building an engine to your spec from scratch. Using a respected engine builder, who will w.....ty your engine for you independently, should give you the confidence to travel without worry. At least I hope so! ;)

8000 Kilometers and no leak, yet. Can someone tell me the product code of the cometic gaskets Kit for our HotHotHot engine, please ?
In Italy the stealers are even worse than in the US, after six months I have not yet received the user manual for the satellite navigator, and I had to order it and I will have to pay for it when it comes.
Additionally the Clutch cofer Screamin Eagle blue paint came away washing the baby....nice uh !!??
The stealer told me I will wait at least six months to receive the replacement AHAHAHAHRGHH!!
I have spent 5K usd for true duals+ mufflers, 50mm throttlebody, Daytona Twintech TFCI ECU plus SE A/C etc.
Sorry for the sarcasm but I am becoming really fed up of the moco !!
Regards to all of you !
Andy

Andy,

I would suggest emailing Wes or Pam @  They can also enlighten you to the 0 ring method as well as the cinch product that Howie posted about.   Best of luck with the repairs.

Pam - pam.cyclerama@gmail.com
Wes - cyclerama@gmail.com

They can tell you the parts they used on my bike to resolve the leaks using the cometic gaskets.   They could also probably take your order and drop ship it to you as well.

Hi Andy.

There is no way you should have to pay for the Nav system manual!  :o  None of the European bikes came with the manual, but it came within a few weeks of our dealer ordering it (in the UK - same for France as I recall) and they did NOT ask us to pay for it.  If I were you, I'd complain to the MoCo local representative about 1) it taking so long 2) the dealer expecting you to pay for it.

Andy,

I fyou want, I can send you the GPS manual in pdf, Jacques send me few mouth ago !

Thank you, Pascal, Jacques has sent me a scan of  the manual as well, still I find rather stupid that the MOCO did not manage to let me have a Navigation manual.

12,400 miles, and I finally noticed the dreaded rear head gasket oil seepage. Took it to my dealer yesterday. He said they have previously repaired two 110's and both are back now w/ same problem. He said the Moco is saying to replace rear jug (new part # ****07-"A")---he doesn't know what they changed--, gasket, and rings. He said they now are told to put the gasket on "wet" with some sort of gasket "dressing"???  They have all the parts except rings are on back order.

thanks for the update - although I'm sorry you're having more issues
I've printed your post and on the way to the local dealer later today
I had both HG's replaced at 4500 and both are"seeping" again and oil is leaking down the studs and coming out at the base on the primary side as well.
I didn't want to simply go in and have another set of "a" gaskets put on that will eventually leak again.
I'm sorry kids, but I'm thinking about trading down to a 96 CI Street Glide and putting this experiment on the shelf. I just don't have that warm fuzzy feeling about this motor.
2008 Street Glide with 6 gal tanks and some extra chrome looks better every day and quite frankly the new motor runs almost fast enough to keep my attention !

Exactly what I was thinking.  My thought is to wait for the 09s to debut.  That way I'll still be under the two year warranty and let them have a year to get the bugs out of the ABS, head gaskets, fuel tank, fly by wire etc.
Also, 2010 is going to have tighter EPA regs so things will get worse.

Excellent Point  - I might need to reconsider?
It's frustrating to realize that the decisions about this motor are being made by accountants in Wisc. and not by engineers.

It's a damn shame. No everyone's seeing it! Been saying this for months now. My rants weren't rants. They were warnings to ya'll. And don't expect anything to get better by bringing it back to a dealer. You'll get HD's fix for it. Which is to continue to dick ya'll around! If you love your bike as I do, bring it to a pro to get redone, and move on with your lives. We can't keep riding around wondering WHEN it's going to break again! >:(

Howie,

I've sended an official letter to HD France and I ask the replacement of my bike.
I wait the reply.

In France and in Europe, we've a new law since 2005 for the protection of the customers.
If the product is not conform to the description or if it's not possible to use it normally, the customer had the capacity to ask : the replacement or the reparation or the reimbursement.
We've two steps :
- the first is the negociation with the seller,
- after, it's in front of the court and it's possible to ask more for the prejudice.

I'm ready to go to the ultimate step.

Little over 3500 and still good. Quickly approaching the dreaded 5000 mile mark. Plus winter is coming on fast, forecasting 25 degress tonight. Time for a face cover.
