TODAY'S UPDATE:

Well I've made some decisions regarding this build. I just ordered a new set of HD 110" engine cases and will be building a new engine for this bike, with nothing HD in it but the cases themselves. They'll be sent out for a Timkin Conversion. New S&S Flywheels and Rods. It will be set for 0.000" runout and have no more than 0.0005" runout before it will be assembled. I'll be converting it to gear drive cams, possibly with the R&R Camplate. I'll probably be using all the parts from my new top end, with Wes making the same cam profile from Andrews blanks so the build stays the same. I was extremely happy with the way the bike rode. I'm not looking over my shoulder for the next HD part to break and strand me, or worse, kill me on my bike. I'm building a REAL motor now, so I can get on my bike, anytime, push the button, and go when and where I want! We might make some adjustments or changes, but nothing drastic from what I have now.

The engine will be built by Vern of North Shore Motorcycles in New Hyde Park, NY (Long Island). Vern's been building HD engines for over 25 years. He's got his own machine shop and can do everything but the Timkin Conversion, which will be done elsewhere to Vern's satisfaction. I have 5 months now to get this right. No corners will be cut. It will only get done right, and all the best parts will be in there, including the bottom end now too. I'm tired of waiting for the next thing to break. This is the only way I can rest assured that I have a shot at this thing being reliable. Won't be too much more than I've already spent. I've got so much tied up in this already, to get my perfect bike, that this needs to be done for me to be comfortable. I'm not playing games with HD's junk anymore. This whole engine needs to be bulletproof. And soon it will be! ;)

Hoist! ::)

Engine case, $xxx.00 plus one Gold Chain

Timkin conversion: Several more bucks, plus a spa treatment

S&S Flywheels and Rods: What the hell, it's just money, PLUS a new tattoo for binx

Gear Drive cams: You've gone this far, just remember Diamonds are a girl's best friend.

Vern's labor: Can't really put a value on that, OR binx's happiness. I'm thinking a Gold diamond studded belly ring

Ken,
When did you say you wanted to do some upgrades to your scooter?? You better start saving now you'll have to add a some extra bling for every mod you do, and the bling will not be for the bike. :huepfenlol2:

Really confused and wondering where all my treasures are stored???  :P

No worries Binx....I've emailed that to myself and think I'm going to get it engraved on some nice chrome to hang on my wall for a "gentle" reminder.  :huepfenlol2:

Damn,  (does that run in the family) she got any sisters?? :D I've never known a woman (or anybody else for that matter) that had everything they wanted.

good luck Howie....you'll get it right.

and you getting alittle sensitive on my post yesterday...... :vrolijk_26:

confidence in your machine is part of it, which some ppl would never understand and ride a GW....or should.... :coolblue:

come on down and you can ride one of my sleds anytime.

Thanks TN, appreciate that man! I haven't had to worry about my bikes in quite sometime. I don't intend to do it with this one anymore either. Building a new motor from scratch, the right way, with the right parts in there from top to bottom, is the only way I can be sure that I can ride it like I have all these years. It's obvious that a stock engine leaves you exposed to way too much risk. I'm over having to worry about this bike! ;)

Howie, since Cybil is now formally a winter project does this mean her formal and public unveiling will be Sedona?

Peace of mind: Priceless!!! is right Phil!

TODAY'S UPDATE:

Cases with my VIN are ordered and mine need to be returned to HD to be destroyed. Are mine bad? Who knows! But I want a new engine, and this is the only way I'll feel comfortable. For an additional $750, it's worth it to me. Timkin conversion by Wes, S&S Forged Flywheels and rods, and new pistons & rings again. Wes (engine designer) and Vern (engine builder) will work together to agree on the best way to set this engine up for my desired result, so far unachieved....a damn bulletproof, good performing engine. That's all I ever wanted out of this in the first place. I'm stepping out of the middle now. I'll be consulted with and be part of the process. But I'll procure no more parts, and just pay for this engine. Vern will take full responsibility for it now and do what needs to be done. Now I have a real shot at it. Once my cases are in, my engine will be removed and stripped apart. Vern will return my cases, and ship the new ones down to Wes. Vern will assess all components for the new build, and work with Wes to determine what stays and what gets changed from the new top end. Cams for sure, as I'm converting it to gear drive. More than that I can't say right now. But building a complete engine, with no HD parts (except the cases; they're the only source for them) and no HD labor is the only way I can get that Peace of Mind that I've been looking for since day one!

This thread unfortunately will not die until I get this bike completed. If you have no interest, don't read it. This is likely to take a few months to complete. I'm not rushing this and it will get done at the pace of my builder, Vern, who I have full faith in engine building, will take the lead from here on in.

'07B SERK3TQ coming soon! ;)
