Peace of mind: Priceless!!! is right Phil!
TODAY'S UPDATE:
Cases with my VIN are ordered and mine need to be returned to HD to be destroyed. Are mine bad? Who knows! But I want a new engine, and this is the only way I'll feel comfortable. For an additional $750, it's worth it to me. Timkin conversion by Wes, S&S Forged Flywheels and rods, and new pistons & rings again. Wes (engine designer) and Vern (engine builder) will work together to agree on the best way to set this engine up for my desired result, so far unachieved....a damn bulletproof, good performing engine. That's all I ever wanted out of this in the first place. I'm stepping out of the middle now. I'll be consulted with and be part of the process. But I'll procure no more parts, and just pay for this engine. Vern will take full responsibility for it now and do what needs to be done. Now I have a real shot at it. Once my cases are in, my engine will be removed and stripped apart. Vern will return my cases, and ship the new ones down to Wes. Vern will assess all components for the new build, and work with Wes to determine what stays and what gets changed from the new top end. Cams for sure, as I'm converting it to gear drive. More than that I can't say right now. But building a complete engine, with no HD parts (except the cases; they're the only source for them) and no HD labor is the only way I can get that Peace of Mind that I've been looking for since day one!
This thread unfortunately will not die until I get this bike completed. If you have no interest, don't read it. This is likely to take a few months to complete. I'm not rushing this and it will get done at the pace of my builder, Vern, who I have full faith in engine building, will take the lead from here on in.
