I've not gone into great detail about the process. But I'm getting dicked around by Andrews waiting for the cores. So during my discussions with CycleRama about alternatives to using the Andrews blank they explained some of the process. Yes there's heat treatment involved, and coating as well. But a guy who makes his own cams knows what needs to be done to them. If you use a reputable place, like Wes Brown, Bobby Woods, Dave Mackie....you won't have any problems with a custom grind. More importantly is to make sure the selection is matched to the build you're doing. That's why having one outfit do everything is a better approach. The cams were designed to work with the headwork, compression, and flow characteristics of my engine design. All designed by Wes Brown. He designed the cam as part of my package. It's all about the combination of components. Some components don't play well with others. So having one reputable guy design the entire package of mods will usually be much more effective than any parts you try to pick out of a catalog!

Glad to hear you're already on top of the heat treating, etc. I think my source was just trying to sell me an off the shelf grind...

On the TP paint design we looked at a few other SE TPs -like the SEEGs our friends have, and the MoCo seems to keep the paint fairly simple on them (just a single color on the ones we looked at). We had started out thinking about gold leaf flames along the sides, but after looking at the MoCo designs we thought that might be too much. And we didn't see any good way to work the tapered marbeling in either. That leaves us with a single color paint scheme and we decided to add the Screamin' Eagle script to the center of the back -kind of like the '08 SEUC. We're doing the script in the bike's pinstripe color. We've thought about adding the eagle head too, but have decided not to at the moment. I think we may still have a few weeks to decide.
