I thought I was screwed after riding Chuck's bike with the Corbin. Rich just called me. His heated, stitched flame, SERK3 Corbin arrived today. I think once I see that.........Geez, it never ends, does it? :nixweiss:

Oh Howie, if you get one you gotta get heat.  Don't start cutting corners now.  Too small a difference not to be able to say you did just a little extra for Binx's warmth and comfort.

Really man, do you want someone to let her know later, like on some 35 degree October morning in the Smoky mountains, that for a mere pittance her ass could be warm right now; but you wimped out?  :huepfenlol2:

Thanks for the comments on the sig picture. Was fooling around in Photoshop. I've got some others I'm playing with, but not finished.

As to the seat, I tried the suggestion about the Aux switch in the dash and when I turn on the switch, the light on the switch doesn't come on. So I'm guessing there's either a blown fuse or something wrong with the wiring. What is interesting or just a coincidence is that the switch for the power locks (which sits right next to the Aux switch) doesn't work either.

As to the garage door opener, I'll try the sync with the door's receiver, but my problem isn't with the receiver, but rather the transmitter in the faring.

Couple all that with a misaligned gasket between the inner and outer faring, also on the right side.

So here's a stupid question, how do you pull the outer faring? I'm amazingly coming up on my 1,000 mile service, so I'll probably just wait until then, but never hurts to learn how to turn a wrench on your own bike.

Thanks

2nd Vote for the heated seat.  Didn' think I'd use it but found out I like it.   Passengers love it too.

LabRat,

My GDO didn't work either. It turned out to be a wire not seated in the plug going to the transmitter.

As how to remove the front fairing:
  • Lay a towel over the front fender.
  • Remove the three T27 screws under the windshield.
  • Remove the two T27 screws by the speakers, one on each side.
  • Look up inside between the fork tubes, from the back side, and remove the last two T27 screws. BE CAREFUL these little buggers are known for dropping down into the fork brace and disappearing.
  • Tilt the fairing forward to look for the headlight wire. Disconnect the wire and wiggle the fairing off.

A trick that may make it easier is to remove the top bolt from the spot bracket and loosen the bottom bolt to allow the sopts to 'tilt' forward, giving you more room to work. You can also slide some socks over the spots to avoid them rubbing on the fairing paint.

It's kind of trick the first time or two, but you'll figure it out.

Chief,
Thanks for the instructions. I guess I need to order a set of manuals from the stealer.

Heavens yes. Get the standard service manual, SE Supplement and SE Parts Book. You'll learn TONS of stuff about your bike.

Until you get your manuals here is a diagram.....

BTW - If you don't already have a telescopic magnet in your toolbox get one. Much easier to retrieve screws # 6 & 7 when they fall into unknown places. Don't ask me how I know. :D

Didn't get any scars. Just a minor delay of the process, and a few explicit words while I went to Sears and picked up the telescopic magnet. ;D

Quick thinker I see ::)
My toolbox is very limited so I'm getting used to everytime I want to do a mod on my bike I end up buying another tool. By the time it's all done I'm going to have a decent toolbox and be a halfway decent wrench. ;D

Rat, another handy trick beyond the socks and the magnet will eliminate the need for the magnet.  Sometimes that bottom pair can be a chore to get restarted during reinstallation.  It's surprisingly easy to mess up those threads in the insert in the fairing.  If that happens, well.... you just don't want to think about it.

I don't even use the original screws in those two bottom holes (but if you do definitely use the magnet).  I screw all-thread inserts in to those holes and and then just use a nut with a captured star washer attached from the inside.  This way you never mess with (or mess up) the threads in the fairing again.  There's nothing to get lined up to get the screw started as the insert sticks through and you just start the nut on it.  For me it's always been an easier on-and-off this way.

There is one caveat though.  During a reinstall of the fairing just make sure you don't catch any loose harness with the insert and drag it down as you install the fairing.

It's an ease of install thing for me that isn't at all necessary.  If, however, you ever start seeing that that the threads in the inserts in the fairing are starting to get boogered up down there it's a cheap and easy solution to potentially ruining a very expensive part.

Hoist will not want the heated seat....that would make his bike too much like a SEUC (you know, a Geeeezerglide).  Just would not be a real motorcycle with all that stuff LOL  :) :D ;D :D ;D :D :)
