Brings back memories. My wife did the Avon 3-day (when did they go to two day walks?) twice when we lived in Marietta. Dropped her off up at Lake Lanier and picked her up at the finish in Piedmont Park. I stayed with the kids but we have a friend (scary looking former "real" biker who volunteered while his girlfriend walked--this big, burly guy wearing a grass skirt with a plastic Halloween buttocks sticking out the back, coconut shell bra and straw hat working a water staion. wifey got a bunch of blisters, soaking wet one year in the rain, and slept for a whole day afterwards but it was a huge deal and the walkers had a blast. This was in the mid 1990's.
One year we dedicated her walk to some friends who live in Idaho--that woman is a breast cancer survivor.
Good for you guys.
In Atlanta, we've got the 3-Day and the 2-Day. The 3-Day is next weekend and is now the Susan G. Komen 3-Day. Avon pulled the plug on the 3-Day walks several years ago. Susan G. Komen had their first Atlanta 3-Day in 2005.
The idea is still the same, 3 Days walking and two nights in tents although last year they did not move camp, but kept it in the same spot. They're doing the same this year. The walkers love it because they don't have to tear down and set up camp each day. It saves a ton of money too, not having to move everything.
This year we're starting at North Point Mall on Friday 10/12 and will be staying in Norcross for the Saturday walk. On Sunday, we'll go from Dunwoddy down to Piedmont Park for Closing Ceremonies.
I love it. It's a blast, but you are absolutely right about being dead dog tired after its over.
