IDS install break
« on: October 04, 2007, 08:52:26 AM »

FYI

I've read that HD has a program called "Elbow Grease"  that allows for up to a $100 labor credit on IDS install from 10/1/07 to 1/31/08  the dealer can access it on thier website hdnet.

Some dealers are unaware ( what a shock!)  , if you are considering an IDS install it's worth asking about

 ;)

Just dropped my SEUC off for its 10K service [yeah I know I should do it myself] and to get the IDS installed.  HD IS giving a $100 labor credit to get it installed; there's a long list of packages that qualifiy, and you can use up to $500 credit per VIN.  !!??!

There's a 3 page form the dealer prints out that has all of the data on it.  Not available except through dealer's net....
just tried to track it down on the HD website, no luck.. so check with your dealer.

I went in to my local dealer (Frazier's HD) and asked about the Elbow Grease program , they were great about it , pulled out the sheets to show me what's included.

I told them I was thinking about the IDS, just then the Service Manager strolled by asking how my 103" was doing.  I told him I was loving it and was planning a trip to Virginia mid month. He said he had just done an IDS retrofit and was really impressed.  I told him I was thinking about putting it on when I get back at the 5000 mile service . He said , "man you will really enjoy it on a long trip, if I can put it on while you wait first thing in the morning are you interested? "  They had one left in stock , picked it up for $277 with tax,  and will get the $100 labor credit. He's even honoring last months oil change special.

It's SO nice to have a dealer that cares, and knows about customer service.

I'll let y'all know how it rides, from everything I've heard it makes a noticeable difference.

Firedood  I'm riding up to Fox Creek Leathers in Independence ,  to get measured for a jacket, the wonderful folks there gave me a great credit on my too big jacket , despite it being well past the 30 day period.  I'll be staying in Hillsville at the Best Western.  Depending on the weather , I may stay an extra day to ride around .  Leaving Tuesday 10/16 .  I'll be riding back on the BRP, was thinking of going up to Skyline Drive , any other suggestions in that area would be appreciated.

I did the BRP end to end and back last year, and decided it was a yearly trip to make.

I'm about 20 - 30 minutes from BRP/SLD so let me know if you make it up that far. If you have the time and you're looking for an alternative destination Route 33 over to Seneca Rocks W.Va is a real nice ride (see pic below).

Thanks for the road tip!

The IDS install is listed at 2hrs , they managed to do it with an oil change in that time.

It is well worth the investment ( $327 out the door ). MUCH smoother , especially below 3000 RPM . This is how it should be . Subjectively it seems that power delivery is somewhat improved , more linear.  I'd highly recommend this , one of the most worthwhile investments I've made on any bike.

Help out an ignorant redneck....What's IDS stand for??? :nixweiss:

Acronym for the "Isolated Drive System."  Though I'd bet this crowd could come up with better words to represent those letters.

Question for the crowd (because it's late and I'm tired and lazy and don't want to look it up anywhere myself).  Have never placed an 06 and prior sprocket side by side with an 07 and newer.  What is different that keeps the IDS kit from retrofitting to 06 and prior year models?

Depending on what the answer might then further consider this: Is the difference such that if one were considering a wheel change could a wheel selection be made that would then allow a combination of wheel and IDS installation on 06 and prior models?

I've put 400 mile on the bike since the change , the only negative is a drop of 3mpg, and it's a bit harder to push due to more resistance in the pulley (which may account for the drop in mpg).

So fat this has been a popular mod, the V-rods have always had it. I can see the MoCo coming out with a retrofit to earlier years if they sell enough.
