Thank You's for the Troops
« on: October 16, 2007, 09:01:50 AM »

There is a radio show here in Atlanta that has started a campaign to send Thank You letters to ALL deployed members of the US Military. There are approximately 375,000 troops stationed around the globe and the Bert Show wants each and every one of them to get a personal letter for Thanksgiving.

If you want to help by writing a letter, getting your children to write a letter, getting your child's class to write a letter, company, HOG chapter.... whatever, here's how to get involved.

http://allthehitsq100.com/bertshow/BigThankYou/index.asp

All the details are on the site. There is a deadline, so please don't delay.

Thank you for your help.

Great post Chief, and if your daughter needs ANYTHING, JW, let us know and my wife and I will help any way we can. We "adopt" from http:/soldiersangels.org where there is a neverending list of men and women that are in need and may have no one at home to look out for them. Just one of many opportunities to support those that stand up for us (voluntarily I might add) The holidays are comin'!!!!

Thanks Chief! God bless them all. It's about time the general public is made to realize these are the good ones. These are the people that we can count on to take this country ahead in the future with what they have witnessed and have been subject to as volunteers to defend this country! God love em! I do! As many of you guys, I did my time in the service as a volunteer and am very proud to see these folks treated as they should be - with respect! There were times that I remember being tripped intentionally by stupid jerks that made solders the reason for these wars.

If the liberal, wealthy, so called stars in Hollywood weren't so narrow minded and self indulgent, they would have started just such a campaign. I have just about had it with their type! Very few of them are worthy of even their mention such as I have done....

Sorry for the rant, touched my heart and memory of bygone days... Again: God love our troops! Count on me to do anything we can for them!!!!

Like you and many others BC I too am a Vet. It amazes me that these folks that are in harms way ask for so little. There was this one Sargeant that my wife and I adopted through Soldiers Angels that was in and around Bagdad for the last 15 months (just made it back with all his digits I might add). After we received his name through this awesome organization we began to try to send the things he may need or want (just guessing by my previous military experience, as we have never met the man). Every time we would send a care package we would ask that if there was anything specific for Sgt to please feel free to ask. After several months of sending packages without any communication he finally wrote, thanking us for everything, and said that "if it's not too much trouble can you guys send me some more home baked goods?" Not an ipod or playboys but home baked goods. Thats all he wanted sitting in the sand trap known as hell. Brought tears to our eyes and the brownies never stopped flowing. Makes the CVO OCD seem somewhat selfish to me sometimes!

Success!!!

Every single member of the U.S. Military who is stationed outside the U.S. will receive a hand-written thank you letter for Thanksgiving this year!!! Every Single One! Not a fax. Not an email. Not a form letter. But instead, each and every one will receive a hand-written, sometimes in crayon, letter saying thank you for what you do.  :)

I heard on the way into work to day the "The Bert Show's Big Thank You" was a total success. In the past 17 days, they have received well over 375,000 letters from people around Atlanta and around the country to be delivered to the troops stationed around the world in time for Thanksgiving.

This was a hometown initiative that CNN, Fox News and others picked up on and spread the word. It worked. At first it looked like they were going to come up short by about 75,000 letters, but one last push got them over the top, with letters to spare.

These are all hand-written letters, some in crayon, sent in by individuals, offices, schools, the Governor of GA and just anyone who wanted to tell one soldier, whom they have never met, "Thank You".

It was an almost impossible undertaking, to get so many letters in such a short timespan, but it worked.

Here are a couple of Links: http://allthehitsq100.com/bertshow/BigThankYou/index.asp

A local artist had written a song which was perfect for this endeavor and the radio show edited in sound bites to chronicle the entire event. It's really worth a listen: http://allthehitsq100.com/bertshow/images/Thank%20You%20Finale.mp3

I think it's great that the troops will get the thanks they deserve for the job they do.

Thank You Everyone!!!

The only bad part of the success of this great site, is that you I miss a lot of posts because there are more posts each day than I am able to read.  This is one I missed, and man ------- this was  a great thing that was done.  Chief, you are really involved in very nice projects.  Well Done for those that got involved.

Folks, having been there and done that, let me assure you that while no time away from the family is easy, it is especially difficult while deployed, compounded in a combat zone, and exponentially difficult during the Holidays.  At this time of year, it is especially important to keep these folks close to our hearts.  These gals and guys are the foundation of the this Great Nation.  God Bless 'em all, and thank you, CVO Harley Family, for keeping our Warfighters in your thoughts and prayers.
