Thanks Howie,

Tell Binks hey...and I will be at Ken's in May.
I hope Josh will be getting around on a walker by then!

He now is able to bend his arm...with great pain...but that will
get better with time. The Dr. found a big piece of bone wedged in
the joint and when he removed it was able to flex his arm almost fully.
This was a very successful surgery! Josh said his hand isnt numb any
more and he can now move his left index finger. He said he couldnt do
that before the surgery.

Thank to all,

Barry

Awesome news Barry! I love seeing these reports of him getting better and better each time! I hope he's well enough to come by Ken's with you to see the crew! :2vrolijk_21:

And sorry, I owe you a call! Thought I'd wait til things started getting back to normal for ya. Sounds like that's getting close now! ;)

HI, I have a urgent prayer request. Josh woke up this morning with quite a bit of blood in his urine. I called the doctor and he was started again, on another round of antibiotics. As of right now, he is peeing pure blood and I just got off the phone with his doctor, and we are headed to the ER for a procedure to stop the bleeding. I do not know what this entails, but Josh is apprehensive and thinks he can just drink lots of water to correct this. I don't know if they will admit him or not. So, please pray this will not be a big deal. He had a perforated bladder from his car accident, so I hope this isn't related to that. I'll update later...thank you. Karen

Please everyone say a prayer.

Here is a prayer:
O God, the strength of the weak and the comfort of sufferers: mercifully accept our prayers and grant to your servant Josh the help of your power, that his sickness may be turned into health and our sorrow into joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Barry, Karen and Jess - One of the things I regret most about not being on this site more often is not knowing about this.  My trip to MV was such fun because I got to hang out with Jessica!  I had no idea about Josh's accident.  I will continue to remember you all in my prayers.  "By his stripes, we are healed!"  If I had known you were at Shepherd in Atlanta, I would have came to visit.  It's an unbelievable place!  I have a friend who was just admitted there yesterday after falling off a mountain and is about 90% paralyzed, but we have high hopes because they sent him to Shepherd!!  I'll subscribe to the thread to keep up with you.

Jess, if you read this, will you send me a PM with yall's home number and email?

Love & Prayers,
V

Morning Campers!

Its early and I'm tired. We had to be here at 7:45 am this morning and neither one of us slept all that great. We are most grateful that we had a room waiting for us last night at the Ronald House, but the beds were twin size. They are going to get us in another room today, if someone else checks out. Yesterday morning when I called they were full, but by the time I called before we left in the afternoon, they had a room for us.

Josh is presently on the treadmill. I had a discussion with Brittany, his PT, about the rubbed off skin areas on his ankles and the back of his left knee, where they have to physically work him. I doctored him up real well at home and told her I expected them to wrap these areas with ace's or 1" foam, like they did at Shepherd. I had shared this with them last week before they started with him on Thursday, but they didn't listen to me, and now he has some horrible skin issues. They are really sore for him. His left quad muscle is feeling better, Josh said. The discomfort has definitely eased up since last week. I knew it would. The more they get him moving the better for him. He'll work out that soreness.

I was pleasantly surprised how much Josh was doing stuff away from his wheelchair over the weekend, and even this morning before we left to come in. I wonder if they had a talk with him about this. Of course he would never share this with me. Cuz, all I do is harp on him about the very same thing. He would never want me to know that they told him the same things! Bottom line, he has to work independently when he's not here, to strenghten his core and upper body, so he can enjoy walking around without losing his balance.

Speaking of this, he took ten really great steps Sat. night in the kitchen, without holding onto anything. And yesterday, while walking up the stairs, he let go of the banister and stepped up two stairs without holding on. I was stunned with this and shocked at what I was witnessing. So much so, that I asked him "What are you doing?" He proceeded to tell me to leave him alone and to stop hovering! All good.

No doubt we will have a nap today. I will set up a Driving Evaluation this week and hope they have got his OT set up this week as well, for his continued elbow/hand therapy. I've got to go check on this now. Have a wonderful day, it's going to be a beauty here. Karen

I had been wondering about Josh too. Didn't want to ask, but sounds like he's still progressing, great news. It's a long road ahead, keep you courage, our prayers are with your family!

TUESDAY, APRIL 08, 2008 10:57 AM, CDT    from the Caring Bridge Site

Good Morning,

You know, some days are hard and some days are good. Yesterday, we had a fun day. We ended up at the Louisville Zoo. It was, I think, 81 degrees and Josh loved it, and so did I. We went with Matt's brother Mike and their younger brother Jonathon and some friends of their's and there little 9 month old little boy. It was a great day. Josh ended up haging out at Matt and Mike's for a cookout and he watched a little bit of the NCAA final before I went and picked him up. We were both pretty tired last night and we slept real good in our tempurpedic beds! I understand Kansas won, I just couldn't stay up.

Josh informed me yesterday that they want him walking into the building from now on with his walker and coming to his appointments this way...no more wheelchair. He said " I probably shouldn't have told you that." Well, he didn't do it this morning. We'll see if they got onto him or not. I did see a young girl doing the very same thing as I sat in the waiting room a while ago. I will insist on it tomorrow. He will have to cross through the lobby to the elevators, go up to the 6th floor, cross to the waiting room of the OP therapy area, workout for an hour and 1/2 and do it all over again when we leave. PHEW! This will be a big challenge for him. But, they told him to do it. So, I'll keep you posted on this one.

Today, he's going fishing with Matt, Mike and Jonathon. He's looking forward to ditching me and hanging out with them all day. I'm looking forward to this as well. I will be taking him over to Matt's after his treadmill and he gets cleaned up. I'm guessing about lunchtime.

I found a very appropriate scripture I want to share. It's from Hebrew's. 12*11-13

"All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. 12 Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, 13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that the limb which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed."

The discipline Josh is enduring certainly has not been joyful, it has at times been very sorrowful. And he is certainly being trained by all this rehab business. His rewards will be great if he continues to listen and follow the course laid out for him. I will continue to be here at his side, helping him where he needs it and when he needs me, Barry too. We're all in this together. His limbs will be healed, we KNOW this. He told melast night, that he started noticing that his left ankle has started to respond, flexing. Hallelujah! Keep the prayers coming. Also, for the continued process of coming off the anti-spasm medicine. He is now off the afternoon dose and on 1/2 strength at bedtime. So far, so good. This will go on for five days, and the a.m. dose will be next.

Gotta run, he'll be finished in a little bit. Have a blessed day. Karen
