How's your Corbin seat?
« on: October 22, 2007, 04:54:50 PM »

Greetings Everyone!
Hey, I've been diligently looking at the previous posts regarding CVO owners who have chosen to purchase the Corbin seat, replacing the stock seat on '06-'07 FLHTCUSE's (God knows, I've looked at them more than once!).
It seems that about 90% of owners are really happy with their Corbin, with the remaining 10% displeased.
I think the stock seat on my '06 is awful (and the wife's not exactly thrilled with her seat), and am researching seat manufacturers, from folks who will build a seat specific to a riders' weight/inseam, etc., to Mustang, to the exotics.
The Corbin is definitely in the running because a) it's a direct replacement, offering the same pattern as that on the (leather) tour pak, and b)most riders have been happy with the Corbin.
So, how has the Corbin seat been on your '06-'07 FLHTCUSE? Do they break in well? I've heard complaints from others that Corbins are really firm (not all cushy). How do they wear? And how about customer service (heard varying stories from other threads).
I know that's alot of questions, but the information I've gotten from this website has been invaluable.
Please let me know your experience and advice.
Thanks,
ICMC GEEZER

I have a Corbin on my 06 SEUC...it's been on the bike for almost exactly 1 year now, and 15 thousand miles (20K on bike).  Let me put it this way...for me, my butt would never have survived 15K without it.  The workmanship is great, and though at the time it took almost 6 weeks to get the seat, I had no complaints once received.  The seat is firm, but forms to my butt, and my girlfriend loves it as well.  Heat works very well, leather is holding up well, backrest (full backrest, not the oval) is very comfortable once adjusted properly.

I have absolutely no complaints with the seat and would buy another in a heartbeat.  If I rode the Vrod further, it would have one as well.

I secound what TC said, the breakin was a little hard on the a$$, but, after 1000 miles or so it worked in great, it raises the rider a little, it also gives the rider more room, so, something to think about is this gives the passenger less room, I added the tour pack relocation kit and everyone is happy!!!!!!

Got mine July of 06, that September I traded in my FLHTCUSE2 in on a FLHTCUSE3, and kept the seat for the new bike. Overall I like the seat MUCH BETTER than the stock seat, with a couple of caveats; the seat cover loosened and wrinkled over time and I had to send it back to be recovered under warranty. shipping it out cost me $160. Also, it is very hard, if I ride more than 4 hours my ass starts to burn, believe me I had other bikes and ridden them across the country and had less discomfort. Overall I'd give it 7 out of 10.

I will let you know. I have one on order for my 07 SE Ultra. I checked today, it is being built this week. It has been on order for close to one month. The stock seat has been killing me, I figure the Corbin has to be a better.

My experience on a Corbin consists of over 100,000miles.  A custom sewn one on my softtail.  Gave great service (looking a bit tired now...needing attention or replacement actually).  The actual seat design you choose has more to do w/ the comfort factor than the foam or covering.  The shape of the pan dictates whether you'll be comfortable or not.  Some of their seats are too narrow......look great, but not comfortable and never will be.  Choose the right one and you'll be happy with it.  ;) har!  :drink: spyder

We have a Corbin on our 03, 1200 Custom Sportster....  Now why did I start with that?  Because my wife has over 17000 miles on the back of the Sportster with the Corbin Seat.  Most say that is a record, clap, clap, clap...  I even gave her a plaque for her outstanding behavior.

So, we have 18,000 miles on our 06 SEUC, we just returned from a 2300 mile trip, the stock seat is killing us, we have just not gotten around to making a trip to Corbin.  I say that because if you are going to spend the money for a Corbin and you live within a 3 day ride to Corbin, you should plan a ride there and get the seat custom fitted to you & your passenger.  We have sat on stock Corbin seats and the seat you end up with when they make it to fit you is far superior.

They Corbin Wizards will spend the entire day just with you, making the seat fit exactally how you want it.  They modify it, you go take a ride, come back tell them what you don't like, they change it, you go ride again until you have exactally what you want.

Good people, great seats if they fit you.  They ones that don't like them probably don't have one that fits them.

My $0.2 worth - I found the stock seat to be very uncomfortable on any long ride so I swapped it out for the Corbin. It was an immediate world of difference and its even better after I was able to break it in (ie. ride on it for about 1000 miles so it molds to your riding position). The backrest is built into the seat so you do have to remove the fender bracket for the stock Harley backrest.

Here are a  couple of things to note:

 - The Corbin has a single switch for the heat - unlike the stock seat that has two (front and back). I don't think that is a big deal but it is different. Both seats are on the same switch with a  high/low toggel setting.

- I intially had a bit of a fitment issue. It was easily fixed by bending the tongue that hold the front of the seat in the front and the use of a rubber mallet to push the seat back into position. Once I did that subsequent removal and replacement of the seat seem to be fine.

- You can look at getting the leather piping around the seams in color. I  thought about this but since I was doing this through ordering in on line/phone I opted not to. You could do it to offer some contrast or to match the color of the bike but I did not want find out that the colors did not match. If you can get a sample I bet that would look sharp if there is a match. They do have colors and material on their web site.

- Several people on this site have brought up the fact that the seat could be easily stolen from the bike - which is true. You have to remove the rear strap that bolts on behind the saddle bags so the seat is only secured by the single phillips head screw in the rear and the tongue that slides into the frame in the front. You can literally take the seat off with a phillips screwdriver in a few seconds. There have been some postings for secure head screws that require a special chuck/key to remove. This is on my list of to-dos' - but have not gotten to it yet.

All and all I highly recommend the seat. Its a bit pricey but I think I saw a post that the price has come down some from when I purchased it about 6 months ago. Good luck with whatever you decide.

In the Spring of 2004, Jamey and I went to Daytona Beach Bike Week.  I had the Corbin put on my '98 Road King.  The bike was ridden just shy of 20,000 miles with that seat.  In December of 2004 Jamey bought me my SEEG and the seat moved over to it.  There are now just over 35,000 miles with the seat on this bike.  Although the colour is starting to look a little worse for wear, there is nothing at all wrong with the comfort of the seat.  Doing 3500 miles to Nelson one way this summer is the testimonial enough that the comfort of the seat was never an issue.  I'd recommend the Corbin for sure. In fact, after years of deliberation, my husband finally has one on order through Jenny.  He already has the back pad for the tour pak, seat will probably be in this week.

So that means there is about 54,000 miles on this seat.  Still the most comfortable seat I have ever sat on.  I like the spongy seats of others for a couple of minutes, but not for more than about 10.  I think one needs firm to be able to cover miles and miles of road.  My opinion, and my personal experience so far.  Hope it helps.

 :cherry:

And if spydglide says his is still comfortable at 100,000 I have something to look forward to in the future.

I am another pleased Corbin dual tour heated seat owner.  They are probably as fine a seat made.  Most people talk about breakin but I did not have that issue either.  Finding the right seat is like finding the right exhaust, everyone's taste is not the same.  Thank goodness for Ebay.

Other than the fact they dropped the price $200 a month after I bought it , I'd say my Corbin is the best seat I've ever had. The heat is very nice, and it seams to be more comfortable now that I've run a few heat cycles on it on my recent trip.. I'm thinking the foam was able to take a good set to my shape.

I hve nothing but great things to say about the Corbin heated dual tour I got. If 9 out of 10 people like it, I'd say that's pretty good odds.

Same thing happened to me (actually about a year).   :(

Scored my duel heated Corbin off of ebay last Friday.  Stole it as far as I am concerned.  I look forward to it showing up next Monday.  Thanks for the help Terry and the rest of you happy owners I owe y'all a cold one!  :drink:

My sincere thanks to all of you who made the time to reply to my request.
Money's a little tight right now, but I'm going to get the seat (actually, I live in SoCal, so maybe a trip up to the Hollister area is in order; after all, if they're willing to fit the seat to my carcass, then all the better!).
Man, this website is invaluable to me, and I'm so glad to see that there are so many truly kind people out there who are just as crazy as I am about these motorcycles, despite their shortcomings (nothing's perfect. . .).
Sincerely,
Thanks!
