Well now that I have just over 9800 miles on my 07 UCSE now comes the time for the rear cylinder oil leak.

Questions I have for all of those out there who have had this same problem already.

1. Has anyone got this resolved and not had to return the bike back to get fixed again?

2. If it did get fixed, what did the dealer do to get it fixed right first time, mf..second time, oh no third time?

3. How long did it take to get it fixed at the dealer?

4. Anyone still having issues and not get resolved by HD?

5. Did the HD dealer give you a hard time about the motor not having the factory pipes on and would not do the warranty work?

I am basically getting ready to take my bike to a dealer and get it fixed but want some back up on what everyone else has gone through.

Many thanks for everyone's response...

I had my cylinders and gaskets replaced. It took about a week. I also had the gaskets replaced a second time.
Please list your VIN in the registry so we can compile a list of bikes.
Thank you, AJ

motor number one: my dealer tried to convince me that they could fix my rear cyl. leak, after about 30 days of getting approvals from the moco and waiting for parts, the dealer started the work only to find that there were too many things wrong, so the dealer got an approval to replace my motor (8500 miles); it took about 4 days to replace the motor.

motor number two: rode it for 2800 miles and after putting on v&h,breather,pc.  i found a rear leak (again), i spoke to the owner of the dealership and to my amazement he said, we are going to put a third motor in your bike no matter what the moco says, and if the third motor doesn't work, we will buy your bike back

i was overwhelmed, i have to say, when this bike runs it is the greatest bike i've ever been on.

i hope this helps you

 Big Dave,

I know of no one that has had a permanent fix yet.   I am trying a fix from outside the MoCo to see if it works.   Unfortunately I only have 1600 miles on the fix so far.   This is my 5th set of head gaskets.   Hopefully the fix that Cycle Rama is trying will resolve my issues permanently.

usually this is how it has been working with the dealers:

1st time replace just the head gaskets
2nd time replace jugg or juggs and head gaskets and possibly the rings as well.

Hello all,

Been a while since I have been on to read any posts, got my SEUC in June, and have about 2800 miles on it so far (work just gets in the way of riding too much), and I have been keeping a close on eye on the heads and have not noticed anything yet (fingers crossed), I have read many posts on the head problems, and have seen varying milage of the start of the problem, has a general milestone been noticed by anyone of when I should be extra watchful?

I have to admit, this is my favorite Bike so far, but I do think my other Harleys ran better (i.e. sounded even, no lugging sounds, and tranny was quieter), this bike does have a slim margin of power over the others I have owned (even though I expected it to be a bit more) I did read about the heads, tranny, over heating problems, and still decided to trade in my Heritage, so I can't say I went into this blind (must have been the "it won't happen to me" mentallity...lol, atleast not yet)

I did want to ask a general question though, I rarely take the bike over 4000 rpms, usually up shift around 3k, and downshift around 2k, this sound about right to everyone? anything below 2k and it just lugs too much. 3k seems to be the sweet spot for power also.

Thanks,
Rotag

Before I made any changes to my 07 ultra the sweet spot was  2500 to 4200.  If you look at the dyno's posted on the site I think you will see they seem to show this graphically as well as what my butt dyno was telling me.   I think your probably enjoying the fun rpm ranges to ride the bike in as well as have the torque there when you need it.

Rotag,

I wanted to comment on the RPM's you listed. I stayed usually in that RMP range 80% of the time. The other 20% was over that but not too many times. I don't ride hard but this was the best mileage I could get until the oil leak appeared.

Now that my bike is at the dealer getting fixed. Now the FUN part will begin when I get it back.

Took my 07 cuse2 to the dealer waiting to hear what the moco will do. it is going on its third cyl.with oil leeks. they have not been able to get it mapped properly it pops back the intake ,dies while shifting between 3rd in to 4th or 4th to 5th. had that happen getting on the hwy in traffic about 65mph pulled the clutch in and pop dead, had to take it to the shoulder to get out of the semi's way while i hit the starter it sarts right back. it does the same thing in town too normaly starting off or stopping . the primary is leaking . the starter shelled sunday in town and left me stranded. if im not happy with the word from the moco , in texas we have what they call the "lemon law". and after calling and talking to them it will qualify for it now, but im giving the moco the chance to do the wright thing. before filling on them. the problem with it all is . do i want them to buy it back ? because they haven't been able to fix the problems , and i dont want to go through this all over again . i love this bike when its running wright . or take a new bike and run the risk of reliving the last year all over again no better off ,have a $40k bike everyone shakes thier head at because it has sooooo many issues. makes me feel like i have egg on my face.i have 13k miles on it now . the bike is completely stock always has been. took delivery Nov. 10-06. i would take a new one if they had all the big issues solved , like the oil leaks , head worping on rear cyl. ,mapping problems , crome peeling off, ect. my list goes on. alot of little ones too,

Word of the day from my HD dealer fixing my bike.

Service manager told me that there is a NEW ROCKER Gasket that they are going to install on my oil leaking rear cylinder head. He received the part today so I hope to ride this weekend and test out the new part.

This new gasket is the first one he has installed and was told by the moco service this should resolve the problems all of us have been having.

Now time will tell if this REALLY will fix the issue.

More to come on this later.

I don't see how a Rocker Cover Gasket will solve base gasket, head gasket or loose cylinder liner problems at all. Sounds like more HD BS to me! ;)

Yeah Scott.  Magic (mushroom) gasket.  Won't see the leak anymore at all.  May see other stuff, and it'll be oh so cool looking, but leaks will be no longer a worry.
