The Bel Ray is good stuff, and so is the Redline, Amsoil, etc, etc.  Like Bob said, we all change the stuff too frequently anyhow.  I'll say one thing for the Redline Shockproof...the stuff is sticky as chit and pink as...well, can't go there.  I swear, I think you could run the tranny dry and the gears would still have the pink stuff all over them.  It has a distinct odor as well...

Now there's an open door....

Closed! So do other pink... Oops! :lipsrsealed2: :lipsrsealed2: :lipsrsealed2: :stunned: :laugh3:

Earlier research I did on the differences between motorcycle oil and automotive oil is due to gov't restrictions.  Motorcycle oil can contain more zinc for corrosion and the other additive is I believe ash.  Automotive oil is not allowed to have these additives any more or not at the amounts allowed in the past.
Technically the motorcycle oil would be better in your car I guess if the weights were correct.

I read recently that automotive oils that are API approved have reduced or eliminated the addition of EP additives. These are the additives that give oil higher heat stiction and the higher contact pressure lube for gear teeth contact and also flat tappet cam followers types of wearing situations. The EPA claims that these additives are detrimental to the workings of catalytic converters so, we are buying oil that has reduced lubricating qualities to satisfy the clean air act. It's a wonder that the EPA doesn't enact a law against farting (they would call it the 'F' word) and require everyone to have a methane gas converter inserted. I should stop with these suggestions!

The reason they keep the zinc and phosphorus down in auto oil is it can be harmful to the catalytic converter. Ash is something you don't want, it' is more of a concern in dino oil, most good sync oils are low ash, phosphorus is the other additive. This is where the oil industry is making something out of almost nothing. The additional amount of additives in motorcycle oil is only a few percent more that in auto oil. If you change your oil on a normal bassis the cost it not worth what you actually get. Test have been done on normal change intervals under average load and there was no noticeable difference in ware between the auto oil and the motorcycle oil.

So, did we ever get a definitive answer on this?  My 1000 mile service is looming, at which time the Syn 3 will be replaced by Amsoil & Redline; I have always used the standard three - Amsoil in the motor, MTL in the primary, and Shockproof Heavy in the trans.  I'm about to buy for the service, so got to wondering if the V-Twin flavours have any advantage over the normal ones (disregarding any price difference...)  :nixweiss:

I have always used Heavy Shock Proof in the trans but am about to buy & try the  V-Twin Transmission Oil with ShockProof®
& also the MTL in the primary but am about to buy & try the V-Twin Primary Case Oil There must be some thing different/better about the V-Twin oils even though I believed that you could not get any better than what I am currently using.

Cheers

Never use Syn 3 in your scoot.....PLEASE :nervous:

With the other oils, Mobile 1..Amsoil..Redline......they are all good. I have not seen any proof that one is better than the other. None of them have had any less problems than the others. If you have a bad bearing, any oil is not going to stop the inevitable.

If you are changing your own oil, choose the one that is easiest to purchase for you......IMHO

Not a company I've encountered before Mike. Interesting site though!

How do you know their products?

I have used the non-detergent oil in the oldster when seating the new rings...
The old motors with a total loss oil systems do not want or need additives or detergents, they like the dirt and carbo

I have a hard time finding non-detergent oils here, go figger.. :nixweiss:
