Negative, according to page 2-60 in the Touring Manual and My Harley shop the Left side is cartridge and the right is conventional. Only the Road King has 2 conventional legs

Dueling Harley shops (start banjo music now).  The senior mechanic at the local shop here has told me before that neither side carries a cartridge and that the manual is incorrect.  I don't know.  Really don't even care (as long as I like the feel of the front end).  Just passing the information along.

Is there anything in the Service Manual Supplement?

A good friend of mine who wrenches at a local HD dealer told me the CVO bikes definitely DO NOT use the cartridge-only stock EG's use it.

The parts manual is FLHTCSE specific, while the maintenance manual is not.  When I change bars I'll pull the fork caps and look, however the fact that  mobe drained the same amount out of each fork would lead one to the reasonable conclusion that the fork internals are identical.  Moreover I had the cartridge set up in my '04 RKC (factory lowering kit w/ cartridge) and the SEEG forks are superior.  Just my 2 cents!

I love to be proven wrong and am definately not above being wrong...I have worked on cycles all my life and rebuilt many forks...I Just have not pulled THESE forks apart yet to see for myself...and by the way that makes 3 mechanics from dealers here in the northwest that told me directly we have a cartridge in the left ...Not that they are always (unfortunately) reliable.

If I am wrong Twolanerider then your life just got much easier ! So I hope I am wrong.

I am back Mrs We. Before I went to look at the thread above I jumped on PartsSmart and tried to answer the question about the cartridge. I have spent the last hour or so trying to answer this question and I wound up more confused than ever. I always thought that SEEG's had the cartridges but now I'm not sure. You see it does not list the cartridge 46209-02 used in other fairing equipped FLs. It also does not show two 46532-04 dampners as would be expected if equipped with the non-cartridge Road King lowering kit 54614-05. So I will have to bow to the gentleman who has actually had his front end apart and says that there is no cartridge.

As for your problem. It almost sounds like your forks are either out of or too full of oil. We always install SE Fork oil when lowering a bike and I've had no complaints like yours to date. When I change mine it will be to SE oil.

How many miles are on it? Has anyone done anything to the front end other than what you mentioned previously?

Regards

Hell, I think someone should just rip their bike apart and take photos along the way.  I would do it myself, but I have to return and over due book at the library today. [smiley=laugh.gif]

OK, I was not able to get an appointment to have anyone look at my bike in Orange today, so I put my tail between my legs and took it into Colonial and asked if someone could look at ---- my husband gave me the language ---- the lack of compression in the front forks.

Well Phil, an absolutly sweet man, sat on the bike and made the forks go up and down what seemed like more than 5-6 inches to me.

Mrs.WeCVO, I am sorry for givivng you a suggestion that you felt unable to accomplish...that was not my intention..If I was in your shoes then I would ride the bike, do like Twolanerider suggested have a goood friend that you trust ride your bike and try it out for a while...then if you are still not happy with it take it to the best dealer you can find and instruct them to please completely drain the front end and go back to stock oil to give yourself a baseline. Ride the bike for a while and if you are not satisfied with the front end and it feels to soft for everyday riding(which I really boubt) then try the heavier weight oil.
My 2004 service FLHTCSE supplement came in yesterday and I was hopeing for a exploded diagram of our lowered fork internals  (to look for a cartridge) but there was no reference to the forks at all except for the axel nut covers and fluid capacity of 10.6 oz in each leg Hmmm... seems like same internals to me.... I guess one day I will just have to rip the front end apart and find out for myself.
It still amazes me that ANY of us can get different answers from Harley dealership mechanics on the subject of cartridge or not !!!

Anyway  best of luck and please post  to keep us in the loop!
Leroy.

Leroy, no need to appologize for "my ineptness around them thar tools," It is just out of my area of expertise. We all have them and that is why we make up a very delightfully diverse bunch of folks and why we butt heads less often.  I am not a mechanic, although I am getting to sure wish I was..... I like yours and Twolanerider's advice about not doing anything rash.  Sit back and wait awhile.  Mmmmm you may have noticed, patience is another of those skill sets I am not good with. Mobe, can you help me with this when we are in the Valley?  Spyde has me thinking about all I am going to learn from those at the rally in the valley and I am not sure anyone can teach me mechanics, but there are some other traits I could learn from others LOL LOL.  Leroy, for someone who sat back quite, I see you are a treasure that needs to come out and shine more.  You have a lot of real good info, thanks for coming out of the shadows.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
