Bought the bike in August, grips went out in October.  Was at the Dealer today, grip (left one) fixed, took the wrench a whole lot longer than the book says to get the wiring in the handlebars.  He said he found corrosion around the internal parts when he pulled the old one.  Not sure what the source.  Oh well, I don't really need them cause I use heated gloves.  Still - wish the stuff we paid for worked.

That is the most important thing. I'm adamant about getting my moneys worth out of my purchases so much so that my wife says she can here George Washington (dollar bills) screaming "Free at last" when I spend them. ;) :D I'm so bad I even read instructions for things that I purchase because I feel that I've paid for somebody to write them (Reggab/Henry and you thought you were anal ;)) It really gets my goat when things you pay for aren't right. >:( Even though you have heated gloves I'd make sure the heated grips worked until the warranty expired.

Could not agree more.  While still at the Dealer, I fired up the bike and turned on the grips.  Waited for them to warm up, and yup they work now.  I will keep checking them periodically.  Thanks.

Ride Safe.

Had mine replaced at the same time as the seat.  But the new grip on the left is loose and twists so they have ordered a new one again.

Some of you smart folks have your heated grips covered by your warranty for 2 years if they come installed on your bikes, and if you had the grips installed at delivery they are covered by the extended warranty.  I have set six on my bike ------ all have been replaced because the grips themselves have a one year warranty and they fail in that 12 month window.  I don't use them that often either.  I mean, it just does not get that cold here, but when it is a bit chilly, they are comforting.  My Service Manager at the Richmond HD shop says that if he ever meets the fellow that invented the heated grips, or the MoCo manager who decided to add them to the parts catalog, he is going to beat the snot out of them.  Not just for mine, but mine do seem to have the worst track record anyone every heard of, but for all the grips that he has had to replace.  Most folks get tired of the fight and do something different.  I just would hate to have the dial at the end of the left grip that does absolutely nothing.  As long as they keep replacing them at no expense to me, I guess I will keep getting them replaced.  My husband thinks I'm a fool to keep fooling with them.  But when they do work, they are wonderful.

Has anyone tried the Kuryakyn "heat demons" grip warmers?  Might be an alternative to the POS HD grips and works with any style grip you choose.

i'm surprised that that the SM interprets the warranty that way.  It makes sense, but in all my experience with other items and warrantys, the manufacturer usuallly doesn't see it that way.  The warranty is not usually self renewing on a failure.
In the past, I have argued that because it was replaced so many times it is a defective design and sould be covered again and again.

In that respect, do you think HD will keep replacing head gaskets, cylinders, etc if a similar failure occurred within the two years and then after?
I believe it will be a difficult discussion in year three without extended warranty.

Mrs WECVO, I agree with what you said and hope it to be the norm.

I think you'll be hung out to dry on the leaks if you don't have the extended warranty.  A STRONG case could be made to force the MOCO to continue fixing a recurring problem, since it was obviously not repaired correctly the first, second, or third time, depending on mileage.

On the grips, I'm surprised they keep replacing them, if they are not stock on the bike, and therefore not covered under the extended.  I couldn't get mine out fast enough, as I did NOT want the trained chimps they have at the local dealer messing around with the internal wiring on my bars....they probably would have said it was because I changed the bars to Wild 1 575's anyway, so I just avoided that discussion and put the Heat Demons on....
