Some of you smart folks have your heated grips covered by your warranty for 2 years if they come installed on your bikes, and if you had the grips installed at delivery they are covered by the extended warranty. I have set six on my bike ------ all have been replaced because the grips themselves have a one year warranty and they fail in that 12 month window. I don't use them that often either. I mean, it just does not get that cold here, but when it is a bit chilly, they are comforting. My Service Manager at the Richmond HD shop says that if he ever meets the fellow that invented the heated grips, or the MoCo manager who decided to add them to the parts catalog, he is going to beat the snot out of them. Not just for mine, but mine do seem to have the worst track record anyone every heard of, but for all the grips that he has had to replace. Most folks get tired of the fight and do something different. I just would hate to have the dial at the end of the left grip that does absolutely nothing. As long as they keep replacing them at no expense to me, I guess I will keep getting them replaced. My husband thinks I'm a fool to keep fooling with them. But when they do work, they are wonderful.
i'm surprised that that the SM interprets the warranty that way. It makes sense, but in all my experience with other items and warrantys, the manufacturer usuallly doesn't see it that way. The warranty is not usually self renewing on a failure.
In the past, I have argued that because it was replaced so many times it is a defective design and sould be covered again and again.
In that respect, do you think HD will keep replacing head gaskets, cylinders, etc if a similar failure occurred within the two years and then after?
I believe it will be a difficult discussion in year three without extended warranty.
Mrs WECVO, I agree with what you said and hope it to be the norm.
