Paint Concerns on 2008 105th Anniversary SE Ultra?
« on: November 28, 2007, 10:45:41 AM »

Thought I would start a new thread about paint concerns SPECIFICALLY on the Copper & Black 105th Anniversary SE Ultra's.

I have read many great things here about how excited everyone is with their new Copper Tops and that's great news!

I viewed my new baby yesterday (11/27) as it arrived at the dealership... Was originally expected on 10/30, so not bad on delay compared to some others.  I have now been told that production of all CVO's have now been suspended until Feb.  Sorry to hear that for the ones waiting, but sure glad I have mine as I'm planning on some riding soon.

:( My concern is that the gold leaf pin striping on the tour box (in my humble opinion) is not up to "CVO standards" and was wondering if anyone else feels the same?  The gold leaf on the rest of the bike looks great (I think) due to the fact that they did not have to join two ends together anywhere, it simply runs off the end of the fenders, tank, side covers and bags.  On the tour pack however it is within the center indented area on the top and they had nowhere to run it off the end, so they attempted to join it together at the front edge of the indented area.  Mine is NOT very good.  Actually it is horrible with an unsightly overlap at the join that can not only be felt, it can clearly be seen.

Does anyone else have this same concern, and is it a warranty issue???

Thanks for your quick responses as I'm picking up the bike tomorrow or Friday and would like to deal with this concern prior to taking delivery.

Take care & ride safe!

Make sure you point this out to dealer/sales person during the pre-delivery inspection so it will be up to the MoCo to replace/repair. Also take pictures for your records, and so you can show us.

If the dealer won't do anything.  Post a pic and ask others to post the same view to compare with.  If yours is the only one at least you'll have ammo to go back to the dealer with.  If nothing can be done I'm sure there's a piece of chrome that will look REAL good there.  Also, don't forget that the leather TP from the 06 and 07 is also available in the parts catalog.  It's only $1,499   :nixweiss:

I have no doubt that D00d has this document on his desktop and will likely make it available to you.  The MoCo has a written standard by which they measure the quality of appearance of painted parts..........classifying different areas of the bike as zones...........the most visible receiving the most scrutiny and the less visible being...in so many words...brushed aside.....like the inboard surfaces of your saddlebags.  In other words, "out of sight, out of mind."  I became familiar with that standard during my paint challenges, as it is what the HD area reps are supposed to use when they inspect motorcycles.  I'm sure I could find it, but no sooner will I put forth the effort, and the "all knowing one" will have it posted.

Gary, do your thing, man......................

LOL.   ;D  Thanks Bro, but you and I both know that title belongs to Gary.  The ONLY reason I got it before he did is because he's working, and I'm at home sluffin' and shammin'..............when I should be caring for my little buddy.

He's right here with me in my study.  He's much happier without the lampshade around his neck.  Gotta watch him like a hawk tho'.

You're welcome, Bro.  I'm honored that after all the help you've given me, I was able to return at least a fraction.   :2vrolijk_21:

I would like to enroll at FireD00d University and major in "Information Collection and Organization."  When do classes start?  What are the admissions requirements?
