Trailers
« on: December 02, 2007, 01:54:39 AM »

We are  planning to ride Route 50 across Nevada in the next several months, and will tow our bikes behind my F-150.

When we get to a departure point, what do we do with our truck and trailer?  Do we leave them in a hotel parking lot; a Harley dealership parking lot; at a truck stop, put them in a storage area?

Why not just ride the bike the whole trip?

A buddy of ours left his truck and 28ft enclosed trailer in hotel parking lot for 4 days in Chandler, AZ. Hotel manager was very nice and very accommodating....
Harley, if you call ahead, if their parking lot is big enough, might......Hope that helps...

I am still a newbie  :nixweiss: and trying to grasp the vernacular; hopefully, future questions will be more succinct.

The question probably should have been: What do y'all do with your trailers and towing vehicles when y’all reach your destination and departure point?

Patti,

Thanks, for the quick response.  As a newbie, I have lots of questions (many are answered on this site) and am trying to learn as much as I can as quickly as possible.

Find a fellow CVOer in the drop off area and leave it at their house. My second choice is a HD dealer. Most will accommodate you.

You used to be able to camp in a Wal Mart parking lot.

Sorry, I did understand the question.  Was just wondering why not ride the bike the whole trip?  Not messing with a tow vehicle and trailer is the easiest solution of all.  Nebraska to Nevada and back would be a nice trip across the plains and over the mountains that wouldn't be too terribly long either.

Hwy. 50......advertised as The Lonieliest Road In America.  That slogan holds even more true in the winter.  Destined to be a very cold and very lonely ride in the winter.  Some passes may even close temporarily at times.  That's a ride that's best done in the spring or early fall.

Are you just riding Nevada or Colorado and Utah as well?  Good luck finding a Harley dealership on US 50 uness you're driving all the way to Carson City, Nv. to leave from.  They certainly have a parking lot big enough for you to leae your trailer in.

That sheds a new light.  When he'd written "in the next several months" I assume the ride was a few months away.  In the spring.  If you're considering a winter or early spring trip you're definitely not riding and I'm definitely nuts for suggesting it.

This is funny!  Thanks for levity.

We will be bringing our bikes from Omaha to Borrego Springs, California either in December or January.  The obvious reason to trailer them this time of year, of course, is the weather.

Not so obvious is we want to get my F-150 4 X 4 out to the desert to do some off road exploring.

I was stationed in Las Vegas at Nellis AFB for eight years . . . thanks to those who brought up riding Route 50 in either the spring or fall.  It definitely ain’t a rode to travel in the winter, even in a cage!

It is a 'must ride' road in my estimation.  I've only traversed it once West to East in late summer and it was 'awesome'!  Highly recommend working it in when possible.  I shoulda purchased the "I survived" t-shirt.  har!  :drink: spyder

Next time I pass through, I'll get you one Spyder.  It may be a year or two, but I'll do it.  Been through three times in the last two years and you're right, it is a great road to ride.
