Give a sister a hand (if Mrs. We wants it)
« on: March 24, 2005, 01:30:37 PM »

Most of us here have read with something approaching dismay of all the difficulties that Mr and Mrs WeCvo have had getting anything approaching quality service out of their local shop on Mrs We's red bike.   The shop's willingness to respond has, apparently, gotten worse rather than better lately.  This is unfortunate for both of them; especially right now when Mr. We is posted away from home for a few weeks.

Many of us recently went out of our way a bit to help someone we don't know by voting online for a man in wrestling competition.  It was asked by someone among us as something to do.  It was also no problem and the assistance gladly given.

The WeCVO's haven't asked anyone for a hand but that's no reason we can't offer it.   As enjoyable as it might be it's not really possible for a bunch of us to show at the dealerships door all at the same time and ask what's going on.  But we can at least drop them a letter.  Perhaps receiving the same letter from all over the country would focus their attention better than has been done so far.

In that light what is posted below is a draft letter that could be sent to the dealership.  Mr and Mrs We, look it over and see if it's ok with you.  If so we'll fill in a last name in the spaces provided and repost it.  Then as many of us as would like to help you out will simply print out two copies and put one each in the mail to the dealership and to the HD Customer Service address.  Perhaps if they receive a hundred or so in the course of a few days they will be more effective in their customer service.  Perhaps not; but it's worth a shot.

The draft letter will be the next posting in this thread.

Don.....an exceptionaly well formatted letter.  Definately a brick inside a silk glove.  I, as I am sure all will be anxious to assist the "We's" in any and all ways possible.  Let us know.

Don

Good job!
So we are actually sending two letters.
One to the dealer and one to H/D corporate.

Let us know what Mrs. We says and we will go from there!

I like the approach.  Give 'em a chance to "do the right thing" by the 'We's' and then, if they don't............... [smiley=hanged.gif] [smiley=furious.gif] [smiley=curtain.gif] [smiley=mean.gif] [smiley=brood.gif] [smiley=behead.gif]

Great letter Don.  I thought about making some of the corrections but it's your letter.......it does need proof reading, thow.

I'm in, of course.  Let us know.

Brother Carey,
I'm in!!  Please consider addressing the initial letter to the Dealer Principal.  The General Manager may not want to be questioned about why these issues haven't been resolved.  Just a thought.  I think your idea is Great, and is the right thing to do for Mrs.WE!  Later--HUBBARD

Count me in.  I suspect letters to HD will have a greater impact, particularly if the letters reach them enmass.    [smiley=brood.gif]

Maybe something for Mobe's paint issues should be next?

Brian, can't tell you that some kind of familial response doesn't seem worthwhile whenever someone is getting hosed.  And please understand I'm not trying to speak for Mobe and his feelings on his experience here; only to what it's seemed from the outside looking in.

In Mobe's case, however, the dealership has at least been making an effort.  I understand that that particular shop is perfectly capable of fouling things up.  Worse in times past then they are now.  It happens to be my local shop too and I have been on foot specifically because of work that's come from there; three times.

In this case though it has seemed that the shop has been responding to the mistakes of others (in the bad paint pieces they've received new in the box).  Admittedly at least once they dinged things themselves.  But it has seemed in each case the dealership has made efforts to get something done and, pretty much, get something done in line with what Mobe wanted.

It's just that waiting for paint-to-match parts takes awhile.  And when it happens over and over and over again it's got to seem like something just short of a lifetime.  But speaking to the dealership and holding over their head further conversations with corporate isn't of much tactical value when the problem is actually with corporate quality control to begin with.  And who at Harley Davidson do you hold over Harley Davidson's head?  The poor part of the answer to that is that the answer should be be all of us.   And that's what the answer is.  The problem is that HD is just smug enough that we don't mean everything we should anymore.
