Air cleaner
« on: March 24, 2005, 10:17:35 PM »

I don't particularly care for the air cleaner on my seeg, and do like the one on the CVO Fat Boy. Anyone know if the Fat Boy will bolt up?

According to the spec sheets (from the HD website) the Fat Boy CVO has a Screamin Eagle air cleaner and the seeg does not.

Thanks,
Duane

If you replace the stock set-up with the SE kit, the FB cover will fit.  Not the way it comes stock though.

That's right, you have to have a different backing plate for it to work.

I did find this photo of WFP's bike with the same mod: Click Here

Looks good on the SEEGs. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

CVO
What do yo mean protected part? I already tried lookning for the same one on the HD site, didn't find.

I like the look/flow of the FB cover, kind of blends in with the paint sceam of the seeg bikes

I mean you gotta have a valid VIN number for a SEFB to get one.

I just looked again and I don't see that cover on H-D's website anymore.  Someone else will probably be along with the part number for you.

Nice photo shop, by the way.

Does anyone have a K&N part number for an air cleaner for an'04 SEEG? I emailed K&N a while back and their reply was that they didn't make a cleaner for it. I seem to recall some members having K&N's on their SEEG's. (not that the orange ones need any better performance anyway) [smiley=laugh.gif]

Well I have my stage 1 air cleaner kit, and all the parts for the CVO FB teardrop housing ordered.
Although seeing is believing. I'll post with the numbers when I see everything is good.

Thanks

My Tuner just called me to say he is concerned that my installation (last year) of the teardrop on my '04 SEEG is restricting airflow.  Yes, I know the SEFB has it.

I just added the Power Commander and am finally getting Dynotuned.

We will be talking tomorrow to see if there really is an issue...he wants to move it forward if possible.

WFP...I had that exact TDrop cover on my SEEG. It looks very restrictive to me and I went back to the stock cover.

Only the rear few inches of the cover are even open. Whereas the stock cover with the stage1 ac kit has twice the flow capability.

The only way to tell is if you dyno it with each one on I guess....

I love the look, but convinced myself it was restrictive...

Yo Phattey,
You bring up an interesting point.  I recently put the teardrop air cleaner cover on mine and have noticed no decrease in performance as yet.  I would think the lack of stock backplate with the Stage I would solve any restriction problems but will check.  One could always use spacers to move the cover out from the backplate.  I would like to keep it if possible as I think the look really compliments the 'swoop' of the paint on the bags/tank and to my eye, looks like it belongs on the bike.

Hey Elvis....You're proably right, there isn't a decrease in performance.

Since most of my experience in high flow air filters are in cars, I used that experience as I studied the TearDrop cover. Typically the more open the cover where more filter is exposed, the better the flow, ergo better performance.

But you know these elements are a lot smaller than a car and I'm not as experienced with bike filters so I'm having to rely on a visual not reality.

I never thought of the ability to "space it out further from the backing plate" before. That's kinda a great idea. That'll provide an opening from the front of the cover into the element...thus more exposure to cool air. Hmmmm..

I agree...it belongs on the bike.... [smiley=beerchug.gif]

I also like the looks of the teardrop design but share the concern over air flow. If you look closely, the rear is the only air intake. The thing has to meet emmissions standards from the factory so I would think it doesn't pass any more flow than the SEEG?

"Also, it's for race applications and only belongs on the ORANGE SEEG."

The above quoted from Dirt Bagger

If it's for race applications only then it would have come standard on the red bikes.

Right red owners?
