Hi everyone. Ran into this site while making my decision to buy the SE Ultra this morning. Well, as of Saturday my Road king will have company in the garage. Anyway, I would value your opinions on breaking in the bike first versus adding the pipes/filter/tuner first. I actually did the upgrades first on the RK but curious what the thoughts are around this. I'll be riding it at least 100 miles home since my dealer sold the one he had while I was out on a trip.
Also, any advice on pipes would be appreciated, I like my Rineharts on the RK but I want something different for the SE (I assume the stock one won't meet my taste and will restrict performance).
Thanks
Ufo,
Warm welcome to this site! [smiley=beerchug.gif]
I am about to recieve my Lil Bananna and have set up to let them install pipes, cleaner, and download before delivery along with handle bars, progressive shocks, spoilers, king tour pak and rack, and a bunch of other chrome goodies and accessories including Hogtune speakers. I had entirely too much time on my hands this winter! [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif].
A couple things were factored in to my decision. They gave me 5 hours labor at half price and 20% discount on parts. I asked for a certain mechanic as I know the Quality of work he puts out. I am very busy at work and would kill myself trying to get all accesories on my new scoot. All accesories would carry under warranty on bike (what I was told).
Engine modifications are only pipes, cleaner, and download. Break-in is a personal preference. My last break-in was as requested by factory. This one is going to be different. I am a field service mechanic for a Cat dealer and have built a few engines in the last 25 years. After each rebuild we warm up engine then load the engine to seat the rings. Use to run them on dyno for 4 hrs, now they only get about 1 hr. I checked out that link to the MOTOMAN and it made sense to me from my background so I am going to break mine in that way. I will take for a nice little ride and change oil and filter when I get home. [smiley=laugh.gif]
I see you are getting the race tuner and not sure about that. I personally would do more research on that. I would make sure my dynoman was top notch and not a wannabe mechanic. Our Cat shop is full of a bunch of wannabe's, use caution. [smiley=shocked2.gif]
Congrates on your new scoot and Blessings to you ufo.
