as per my dealer,, you only have to turn the old part in if it's covered under warrantee.

That's the problem, every dealer reads it differently. I have bought 2 SE parts on ebay with no problem (from dealers).
I can agree with the parts restriction within reason. It keeps any Joe Blow from ordering a bunch of parts and selling a fake bike.
But if you own it, have the VIN you should be able to buy it.

Funny thing still is, you can't buy the SE emblem on the 2005 tourpak, but you can buy the tourpak with the emblem.

When Judy's '02 SERK was just a couple of weeks old, she was stopped at a red light & a man in a PU truck was stopped behind her said his foot slipped off the brake peddle & rearended her (thank God I wasn't there). To make a long story short, when she got her bike fixed, the mechanic at the dealership (which I've known for more than 20 years) gave us the old parts. WELL the SE emblem  was still on the damaged rear finder (which I wanted). All's well that ends well!!!! Not......Every time I went to the dealership they asked for the rear fender (with the emblem), which I always conveniently forgot to bring in (hoping It would blow over). So a couple of months later the owners son called me begging me to bring it in, saying if they didn't return it to the MOCO Quick they would be finned $5800.00. Soooo being the "GOOD OL' BOY" that I am (LOL) I gave it back to them. Those guys have always did me good. I figured I'd do them a good turn. I still wish I had that emblem though. Linny

In the words of my fellow F/F's that would have to elicit a "show me" response.

Just received a new front fairing (with the restricted CVO paint) from Jenni w/o turning in the old one that's still collecting bugs/rock chips/etc. on the Huckleberry.  :o har!  :drink: spyder

Hey, that is a very good point.

Jamey had to replace his dash insert and they made him turn in the old one.  Then they admitted to just throwing it in the garbage.  Think he is not very impressed - at all.

I'm considering removing any proof that it is a CVO to avoid the stigmas attached to the motor issues.

You know, I had never thought about that as one more reason to paint mine. "Nope. Not a CVO. The motors they put in them are crap. This is just a purdy Ultra. Just like a CVO, but without the problems."  :bananarock:

Harley Davidson has a restricted parts list clearly stating what is and isn't to be sent back.  Not every part on every limited edition bike is called back.  For instance all the paint on the 100th anniversary models used to be called back now the only thing they really ask for is the silver/black pieces.  However, if a dealer doesn't send back a part that is considered protected there is a $5,000 fine issued. As far as normal warranty parts go, the delaer sends in the warranty claim for approval and the motor compnay recalls parts as they please.

Thanks, I have lurked the boards for a little while.  I am hoping I can provide unbiased info and opinions from the perspective a long term dealership employee.

That would be great. :2vrolijk_21:

How about going to the New Member Introduction board and introducing yourself to everyone?  :)
