Harley Davidson has a restricted parts list clearly stating what is and isn't to be sent back.  Not every part on every limited edition bike is called back.  For instance all the paint on the 100th anniversary models used to be called back now the only thing they really ask for is the silver/black pieces.  However, if a dealer doesn't send back a part that is considered protected there is a $5,000 fine issued. As far as normal warranty parts go, the delaer sends in the warranty claim for approval and the motor compnay recalls parts as they please.

Like I posted previously - show me

My dealer has yet to show me anything in writing.

The list is pages and pages long.  I will check the part number of the particular item we are talking about when I get to my desk tomorrow and reply as soon as I know.

I know the employee who threw my husband's dash piece in the 'garbage' after he made quite a fit about having to give it up in place of them ordering a replacement part on his dime, is thankful for that info not being made public.   If you know what I mean.

The thing that irks me Candy is the "requirement" to return a part that I paid for, and own, it doesn't seem legal.

The only requirement should be proof of ownership. After all, it would be in our best interest to restrict the parts only to bonafide owners.
