Could that be the old "Parade Duty" flash?

Sounds like the "Parade duty" setting.  I believe you can have that enabled, and if you don't like it have it disabled for free.  Beyond that you have to pay for it to be set up again.

Does anyone know if you can still enable this mode if your bike is set up with the Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner?  I have heard mixed information about this.

Yes, you can have it enabled with the SERT, but I don't, as like Red said, a properly tuned SERT'd bike doesn't need it activated.  I'm not sure why they call it the "parade mode" as it is not enabled when the clutch is engaged or the bike is above idle.  :nixweiss: Only when the bike is stopped, clutch in, and idling, does it stop sending fuel to the rear cylinder.

Your talking about the EITMS temperature control download.  It's only available on '07 &'08 models.  It shuts the rear cylinder off when too hot.  The bike must be at idle and stopped.  Once moving at all, the rear re-fires.  I used it on my '07 CUSE.  It works very well.  It's seamless and I can't even tell it's kicked in unless I'm looking for it. It's free, it can't hurt, it can only help.

I have since also added the Le Nale cooling fan and the Nightrider enrichment pig tails that plug into the O2 sensors to trick the ECM into running at 14.2 instead of 14.6.  It's undetectable, but it's not as good as the SERT (which could void your warranty as it did to a friend of mine).

Only if they can prove that the SERT caused the failure...

After looking at the Lenale fan/horn combo, I think I am going to make the leap. It's pushing 175 cfm's @ 120 mph and is rated for 50,000 hours of operation. The horn has been updated to 100 db. The fan is set up to operate by a manual switch, but I think I am going to try finding a thermostatic switch to operate it. All in all, it beats the HELL out of Harleys gargantuan hideous side fan that makes you relocate the horn. these fan kits are available through Eastern Performance part # HD-2008-01 at a current cost of $219.95 with free shipping. Now, where's my beer?  :drink:

While it is possible that the fan itself may be able to attain those numbers in a perfect enclosure, putting it in the cage like they have, I seriously doubt it does anything near that. I would ask them if they have actually tested it "as built". I'm pretty sure they haven't and are just relying on the fan manufacturer's specs.

Good point, I will be doing some checking on that BEFORE purchasing. Thanks Chief!

I showed my Le Nale to the tech at HD.  He said, after feeling the output, that it sure puts out more air than the HD unit.  I've used it several times in heavy long duration traffic and have not overheated while others in the group I ride with have.

Le Nale talks about testing them in their discussion on their web site, but they don't talk about end result CFM.  I find that it works fine and I'm glad I put one on both my '07 & '08 CUSE2 & 3.

Please post pictures after you install it!  If you are able to gather any any pre-fan install and post-fan install engine temperature readings that would be great too!  I am curious how well this will work.  I might opt for the "parade mode" setting as well as it would only activate when needed, and I don't see a downside to it.

If summer ever gets here I will be able to personally experience how hot my bike will get.  Where the heck is this global warming they keep promising us?

I have some experience in the streetrod area.  We've had lots of discussion on electric fans, straight blade, curved blades, you name it.  It's common to estimate 1 amp of fan motor load to 100 cfm of output.  So as an example a 3,000 cfm 16" fan would pull about 30 amps on your electrical system.

So as a rule of thumb, if you know the amp load of the fan, times that by 100 to get a rough idea of the cfm output.

Some guys get into trouble with the combined load of accessories they install on their cars.  Keep in mind that when idling under a high load situation, stereo on, headlight on, the voltage drops and the fan will now run slower due to the drop in voltage producing less cooling as a result.

Hope this helps.

great info.and i dont doubt you accuaracy. bottom line is with a correct tune, you dont need to waste money nor put that kinda load on your charging system.  just another band aid, like the plastic heat shields.

I think the plastic heat shields only improve the riders comfort while actually holding heat over the rear jug  :'( as opposed to the fan moving air across the motor and potentially helping to cool it.  :)  I have not used either, just an observation.   :-\ spyder
