The American Indians couldn't control immigration either.  We're becoming them......

I understand that comparison, I guess "Little Big Horn" is now our economy and urban crime, with our politicians being Custer.

If California needs a new school built every day, it will need a new prison built a week.

Its already too late for California. When this starts happening in your state nip it in the bud and elect a governor who has balls like Arizona did.

The speaker is basically making his point concerning the levels of immigration allowed under current laws passed by Congress.  That is an addressable issue, one for which we can all hold our elected representatives responsible.  The bigger problem is the lack of enforcement relative to illegal immigration.  Congress does not enforce laws, that duty falls to the executive branch of government.  As much as we love to bash Gee Dubbya, and as much as he deserves our bashing, he did not invent this issue.  No administration in the past several decades has truly enforced the laws, especially with regard to our southern neighbor.  That is why I am very interested in where the current crop of candidates stand on this issue.  We need to stop letting the Mexican government use us as their welfare system, make a real effort to secure our borders, and streamline the system for apprehending and deporting illegals.  Once we get a handle on the illegal immigration, then we can make informed decisions on suitable and sustainable levels of legal immigration.

Hey Jerry......that all makes too much sense to me.......I'm guessing we must be missing something here.  It's hard to believe it would be that easy to go back, start enforcing the laws on the books (or chg. um), then, once that's accomplished.....move on to the more complex problems.  What could we be missing here?   :-\ spyder

Our immigration policy has really screwed up Mexico also. Their borders are being overrun by "illegals" coming from the south and the magnet is the US. Now because of Arizona and Nevada enforcing employment verification the Mexican border towns are actually being inundated by folks going back south. Many are migrating to other parts of the US though and will be in your neighborhood, schools, emergency rooms, and on your freeways soon. They are not bad folks, they just have to know how to immigrate here legally with a sponsor who will help them assimilate or suffer the consequences. Doc

I dont care if you are for or against illegal immigration. I do care about what my grocery bill is. 65% of all farm workers in the US are illegal migrant workers. Any suggestions on how to fix that?

We're already paying more for increased social services costs and increased costs for local emergency/medical/law enforcement that could cover the increased costs of food production.  spyder

The problem is not with the migrant workers, they go back home. The problem is with the illegals comming from Central and South America. China, Iran, Iraq...they are not going home or picking lettuce. They go after construction jobs, and the service sector. They buy houses, cars, send their kids to school...they don't go home.

Spyder, we will end up importing food to make up the shortfall if we clamp down on these farmworkers. There is no available native born workforce to harvest the crops that need manual labor.

A 'work-visa' program wouldn't work?  It would be better than what's happening now .....  our NC Governor just went on record saying that he's supporting illegal immigrants attending our state-tax-supported community college system.   Complete disregard for the existing laws of our nation.  I don't understand it.  :confused5: aaaagh.  spyder
