A 'work-visa' program wouldn't work?  It would be better than what's happening now .....  our NC Governor just went on record saying that he's supporting illegal immigrants attending our state-tax-supported community college system.   Complete disregard for the existing laws of our nation.  I don't understand it.  :confused5: aaaagh.  spyder

Agree with the work Visa concept Spydy...we have a International Student Services area at UAB...it is not only for students, but for immigrant employees as well.  I have to deal with this area on almost a daily basis, getting our post docs in, research people, etc.  It is an absolute nightmare, not for me, but for the two or three employees working in the ISS office on campus.  We do not hire illegals, needless to say, but the Federal Immigration policy is absurd in many ways.  I cannot go into all the details here, but we are trying to get qualified, highly skilled people in, and the feds make it very difficult.  They've got their priorities backwards...we NEED these people, because we don't seem to have the means to raise them ourselves because our school systems are generally so woefully lacking.

The Mexican problem is something else entirely...they are taking jobs around this part of the country that nobody else wants to do.  There's got to be a lot more money pumped into the immigration problem to hire enough people to do the job they find impossible to do now...they are simply overwhelmed by the volume.  The manpower it's going to take to tackle this problem is going to be expensive, but it's something we need to do to get a handle on things.  Building a fence might help, but we've got to have PEOPLE to patrol and deal with the problem as well.  There's no free lunch on any side of this equation...we're going to pay, we've just got to have some leadership that will step up to the plate with some comprehensive direction.

Terry my friend I have once again been reminded not to ASSume anything. I would have never guessed this would be your position. Given the economic impact on the middle and lower class legal citizens that is!  ;)

No problem with that approach, but "rounding them up" is not going to be an easy task, and I'm not real sure where the manpower is going to come from.

IMO, the best way to deal with illegals, is to deal with the attraction to come here.  If we will in force current laws and penalize those that employee illegals, the problem will improve dramatically.  No Job > No Food > Time to go back home.

Temp. work visa might be worth considering :nixweiss:

History TC, history. The answers to most problems lie in history.

Take a lesson from the Bureau of Indian Affairs

Unless I'm mistaken, it was "tribal police" who rounded up Geronimo.

You offer "some" of them legal status to "police" to the rest.

That is a Valid point, However you missed another Free one, In VA they go to the local County Social Service office and apply and get $$$ and WIC (Food Stamps) also They show up at any Hoispital and Recive FREE Health Care all the while (no Speakie the engla) and NO papers are ever asked for to prove they are legal. Draining the Local tax payers and federal SS payments to the state to support persons who do not pay into the system ever, but take $$$$$$$$$$$ money from everone who does.

If anyone is here (USA) found to be here illegal they should be implated with a GPS chip and sent back , If they can lojack a car or a bike we can lojack them and track'em, When the apply for and recive citizen ship then the implant would be removed ( I would support $ for that program).

You would be better in the long run to pay double for groceries than to pay for healthcare, foodstamps, education, etc. for illegals.
Hire them to built the fence, but make sure they build it from the southern side and when its done, problem solved.
Oops, I forgot prisons, lots of prisons.  Illegals have a high crime rate and any legal money earned is sent out of the country and there is no economic gain to the US.
We even allow illegals to join the military to earn citizenship.  The recent story of the Marine that raped murdered and fled to Mexico is a good example of that policy.
We nee d to change the laws so that dropping a kid in the US does not make the kid a citizen.  How ridiculous is that? Especially when the incentive is to have more kids = more check$
