Getting back on topic, it looks ( & seems reasonable to assume) that the receiver would be part of the switch located in the fairing and not a separate unit in the saddle bag. That being the case, it should be a case of just changing the switch and adding the fobs. Right?

Not on 06-07.  The switch used for those is different than is pictured here. Mates to the bike/harness entirely differently.

The switch seen here plugs with a single connection rather than the interconnect between something and something else as seen in the accessory photo.  The single connection seen here mates to the harness that runs to the relay pack (also inside the fairing).  Those connections are joined by power and ground sources before running to the back of the back after leaving the relay pack.

Without either a schematic or a hands on we don't know what else is different in the nose of the 08.  But we do know that something is.

This is the 06-07 schematic to see how it all ties together.

Oh sure, it's obvious now.

AJ, try the new voice activated super lock system.  No hardware, no wiring, all power of the mind.  Dismount from the motorcycle.  Speak loudly and in a clear voice "Bags Lock."  And if you believe they are locked that will be good enough. :drink:

I researched this a lot before the 08's came out. The best solution I found was to buy a remote car lock kit (key fobs and receiver) and use it to activate the solenoids already in the 07 models. The biggest obstacle is pulling a new power line for the relays that are already in the fairing. They are running off of switched power and if you want the remote setup to work, they must have un-switched power. After that, it's only 4 wires from the after market control receiver. As I recall, the receiver I bought was from JC Whitney. One of the less expensive ones (around $30). I have no idea how hard it would be if you have a pre-07 without the locks already installed.

It's great that you can come to this site and be entertained and learn a little.  Sometimes even at the same time.   :)

Really not too bad.  The harness isn't complicated at all.  I made a dozen for others here.  Pull the tank to run the harness underneath.  Mount the new hardware in the saddlebags.

Doing mine the first time including making the first harness was an all Saturday afternoon affair if I remember right.  Did one more with the harness already in hand and that second time it took an hour and a half.
