So, finally I dug into the backrest bracket mod. I was sick and tired of my backrest issue after only 1700 miles.
I decided to elongate the forth hole position which mounts with two bolts to the fender. I had to elongate the center "strap" last position hole as well.
I was operating on the theory that a small degree of change at the base will increase with greater degree of change at the end. Like little angles are big angles yet the same degree at the axis.
Anyway, it worked great until I tightened it down. Because of the curve of the fender, the tighter I wrenched the nuts down, the more it would drive back into the original position, which is what I didn't want. OK, so, using some duct tape to protect the fender from the other side of the bracket, and using spacers made of nylon, the bracket held in the new position, off my back and slightly offset from stock.
I was worried about too much; the seat out of alignment with the hole, the bracket will slip due to the new slotted holes, the back rest won't hold when I put pressure to it...etc. What a wimp I am when it comes to new bike paint and new bike parts that don't have an easy remedy. Well, this was easy enough, and I didn't have to buy a new seat (yet, that is....LePera is 5 miles from here..) and that's a relief for now.
I'll take a picture, post it all today. Stay tuned,,,,
