07 Leather Tour Pack Leather Waring away on inside of lid.
« on: February 18, 2008, 08:45:58 PM »

Has anybody else had any problems with the 07 Leather Tour Pack leather waring away on the inside lip under the lid?  Mine started to ware in three places about a month after I picked my bike up in June 2007, now there are three holes under the lid.  I asked the dealership if this is covered under warrantee and I have never gotten answer from them. Does anybody know.
Thanks.

Is it where the lid fits over the TP and rubs together?

Ultrabudda,
I had a problem with the top lid wearing away the leather on the lip of the bottom piece.  I went to my dealer and they called the MoCo.  They said they'd do a "one-time warranty swap" of the tour pak.  What I've done since it's been replaced, is put small strips of black tape where it appears to be rubbing on the new one.  That seems to have taken care of the problem.

Is it over an edge?  If so what about using some of that plastic door edge molding?  It comes in various ID sizes and in black.  Would give a hard cover over the leather edge.

Damn, I knew there was a reason that I liked having you around.   ;)  I never thought of that.  That would work perfectly.  :2vrolijk_21:  You're okay Don, I don't care what anyone says about you.   ::) :P

Had read only in passing of the trouble with some edge on those leather tour paks.  Never saw the problem in person though so just hadn't thought specifically about it.  When saw it mentioned this time realized you must be describing wear over an edge though.  A narrow version of that edge molding seemed like an easy potential solution.  Hope it works well.  If so it'll be an easy and cheap solution.

Had the same problem on our 06. Found it was mostly due the wifey leaning back and putting pressure on the lid causing it to rub against the tour pack edge. I adjusted the latch moving the lid forward a bit. Stopped the problem. The edging Don suggested is a good one, think I'll give it a try as a preventative measure. Thanks Don!  :2vrolijk_21:

Gary,
Got to feed him a bone every once in awhile, otherwise he goes off on strange little tangents...this keeps him, hopefully, somewhat rooted in reality.   :huepfenlol2:
