That's awesome Don!!! I'm glad it turned out this way for you in the end. After last year's hell, you deserve it to be right! With any luck, it sounds like me and you might have some fun in York!!! ;) :2vrolijk_21:

Don,

Sounds like you got a real nice result.  You don't know how much I wish a first class tuner lived close to me.  When the weather breaks, I am going to have to travel a bit to get to a tuner as good as John Golden.  Unless I can figure out a way to hook up with Speed Hanson of Speed's Performance Plus - I am planning to head to Jamie at Fuel Moto.

But - back to you...  Your results are pretty much what I hope to see.  Plenty of torque with a fairly conservative build.  To bad you had to do it twice to get there - but it sure sounds like you got there!  Great Job - must be pretty satisfying.

Congratulations!!   :2vrolijk_21:

Scott, it really is satisfying to see what should continue to be a nice, stable, reliable build up.  I've got nothing on the cylinder head breather vent right now.  Will wait to see how these rocker boxes handle blow-by/misting before deciding what if anything to do there.  Speaking to just the running of the engine, however, these first impressions could not have me more pleased.

It really does "sound" good.  It responds to the throttle quickly and wraps up quickly.  Both are things I was missing terribly from how I had to detune the prior effort to keep the bike on the road.  It's now what the first build should have been; plus some.  You never know until you see a set of components in action.  Initial suggestions here are that the rather extensive homework and basic modeling are going to pay off.  This looks to be a nice combination in concert.  Certainly am very pleased so far.

Scott, you're only a day's ride from here.   It'd mean getting a Power Commander but you're welcome to stay here and visit John's some weekend he's home.  We'll drink beers, make up stories, you'll get a good tune and you can ride home on a Sunday.

John and Sandy's rally schedule is starting to get laid out on their website.  You might find him closer to you some weekend than you'd expected too.  But if you'd want to come here and give the bike a spin just say the word sometime.  We'll make a weekend of it!

Thanks Spyder.  I know better than to promise good fortune tomorrow based on what I saw today.  Rather than dreading different weather and wondering if it will be all right this time I'm looking forward to seeing how well it will actually do though.  The bike could make a liar out of me yet.  But I do feel this is a combination that should be quite nice for regular use.

Damn I wish it was spring now ::) :mango: :P .

Wow, I bet it's going to be fun to ride again, huh? :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2:  Those are some nice numbers there! :shocked2: :2vrolijk_21:  Congrats on persevering through all the issues and getting good, complementary components on the bike.

Thank you Brian.  Appreciate the good words and thoughts.  When you were on the red bike in Hot Springs I remember you commenting on its relatively late power band.  The bike wasn't bad.  But it wasn't great either.  Especially compared to how it should have/could have been.  And it was just a nuisance beast.

The heavy blow by, oil consumption, just petty detail after petty detail all growing from it never being the quality of effort that it should have been to begin with.  It seems to be better now though ::) :pineapple: .

Yeah, when you commented a day or two ago about it taking awhile to spin up with the previous build, I thought to myself, "Uh huh, I remember that."  I bet the combination of your new build and those D&Ds that make the TQ early is really a night/day difference from what you had before.  Trade you a ride on a stock SERG? ;D

Night and day.  I'm sure I was grinning from one side of the face shield to the other after I left John's place.  Where before it would slowly pull to 4k or so then finally catch its breath and take off like it should now it's like a cheerleader virgin that just got goosed the first time anywhere within the cruising RPM range.  Couple that with pipes not being loud, but still sounding "good" and it's just a wholly more pleasant ride than it has been for a year or so.

It was 28-30 degrees when I left Johns.  I didn't have on the electrics.  Freezing rain was coming in.  But it felt so good I still had to ride it 25 miles or before the new freezing sprinkles chased me back to the house.

It's obviously not a monster motor by any means.  Lots of guys here have more powerful mills.  But for how I ride and what I wanted it to be it's going to be great.  It's going to match my particular needs and desires very well.  John's dyno has never really been a "happy" dyno either.  Things from him are pretty real.  That much more reason I'm pleased with what I'm seeing right now.

Yeah, I looked a map awhile back.  You're about 9 hours from me.  I already have the power commander - I put that on late last summer after I dumped the T-Max - A/T.

I will keep your offer in mind as spring approaches.  I have always been able to figure out a way to meet up with Speed on all my past tunes - but his touring schedule kicks in with Daytona also.

I'll figure something out...  And thanks for the offer!

When you get a chance, how 'bout some more photos of the motor, and the overall bike, too, with the D&Ds on there?

Didn't have great light in the garage for photography purposes.  And was only taking quick stuff as I went for review purposes in case something later proved to be screwed up.  Here's a summary of the differences though.  Will get some more satisfactory pics of the bike with the FatCats on there when we get a good sunny day again but after the clutch has been replaced.  Already got the red bike back on the lift for that now.

This is the new TP "Pro Vent" rocker boxes.

Their entirely different venting method can be seen here along with one piece integrated rocker arm support method.

The business end of the cylinder heads.  They came out of the box with really pretty machine work.  That was a nice change of pace.  Then they were tweaked to work with the cylinder piston combination from Axtell.  That looked like more nice work.
