Well, I talked to the dealer Friday.  They said they can not put anything in it that is not EPA compliant.  I'm thinking "EPA compliant" would not do me much good :nixweiss:

3, 12, 15, what's next?  This is a like a reality show.  I thought watching OCC built bikes with a hammer was bad, but HD stands for Hide and Defend.

If you think about it, it's only natural that the MoCo would come up with a "flexible" specification for runout on their "flexible" Chinese crankshaft assembly.

Yes, they mentioned a SE cam that would keep it "EPA Compliant", but said that it would not make much difference in performance.

I've wandered through the SE Pro catalog as well as the on-line parts and accessories catalog, and have not found any EPA compliant / street legal kit or cam for a 110 (other than what you already have).  Unless your dealership has a brand new hot off the presses update, I believe they are mistaken.

I'm somewhat surprised that a dealership in your area is worried about making noncompliant modifications.  I didn't realize Oklahoma was a hotbed of EPA activity. :confused5:

Thought I might give a report on my oil leak:

Took the bike in and was very surprised when the dealer called the next day to tell me that they were already finished (I was expecting a week or so).  I ask if they replaced gaskets on both front & rear cylinder.  The service manager said that the front cylinder was not leaking, so they could not replace gaskets that were not leaking.

Anyway, I rode the bike home (about 40 miles) and cleaned the motor throughly, so any and all evidence of leak was gone.  Have been riding and watching for signs of new leaks...so far, so good.

LRebel,
Glad you have the bike back and rolling down the road!

Your dealer should have gone that extra mile and done your front gasket,
but we see a bunch on this site that will do the bare minimum and get us out
the door as fast as they can!
Have Fun,
Tim

LRebel,

I don't remember if you said anything about contacting H-D directly about your leak, but if neither you nor the dealer contacted H-D that might explain why your repair only took one day and they only did the rear gasket.  When the leak returns, contact H-D Customer Service.  H-D has been supplying the dealers with special "no part number experimental" gaskets on a complaint only basis, and they will provide front and rear as well as instruct the dealership on things like checking for cylinder liner movement, torque specs, etc.  Unless I missed something, I get the feeling your dealership just pulled a standard gasket off the shelf. :nixweiss:

Jerry,

I was told that they had the "new gaskets". :nixweiss:  They also said that they checked the cylinder liner and that it had not moved.
If it leaks again, I will call HD.

Thanks,
Troy

When I got mine done I asked my tech if he just did the rear. He told me the front didn't leak, but he changed it anyway because he was given both gaskets and thats what was recommended. :nixweiss:

The first thing I would do would be to FIND ANOTHER DEALER! There are problems and the only thing they gave you was a quick fix. Just wait till it starts again. It will be in PRIME riding season and they will have it for 2 weeks or better.

Be Safe

Dealer in Tucson, AZ, replaced my gaskests with "latest revised" part # 16801-07C. I saw that part # stamped on gaskets before replacing and lokks like compressed asbestos graphite coated, one piece composite gasket, hoping finally a remedy for us. Now my bike is on the shop because I had a little accident on january 19, a friend ond his bike hit me from rear but fortunately minor hurts, and bike only replace parts. I didn't fall down. May be next week 'll be ready for more miles and monitor very closely these new gaskets and any other undesired defect. Beer and bike are not always good combo.

Is this Harley's latest answer? Was this the gasket they used?

Hard to believe Harley is still selling these defective bikes. All the 110 touring models are defective. Just a matter of time before everyone has the same problem, over 200 so far that just I know of including brand new out of the crate. You will see oil starting to leak on the rear cylinder bottom , closer inspection will start showing the top gasket is starting to leak. First thought is of course it is just gaskets, no big deal, wrong, The vibration caused by the pistons are pulling the cylinder sleeves loose, causing the leaking problem. Of course it is under warranty so once the new techs figure it out instead of replacing gaskets, they will replace the cylinders and sleeves under warranty, so figure a couple of weeks to get it done, plus you have another beak-in period. But guess what, they are replacing them with the same defective parts from the factory, so it is just a matter of time before it has to be done all over again, some in less than 1000 miles. The of course the real nightmare, if the sleeve comes completely or close to it, loose, the engine will blow all the gaskets, or if it is during the down stroke of the piston it will lock up the engine, Should you survive this situation, you will now have to wait for a new engine, with of course the same defective parts. So putting in new gaskets is like putting a bandaid on your forehead for a brain tumor.  Of course no recall by Harley, no notification to the owners that their life could be on the line, Best bet, either go to the 113 set up, which should only cost about $4000, more or dump the bike while you can. The word is getting out and these will be worthless. I gave up on mine and got rid of it  and took a big loss, but have a very nice 05 to relace it with. Hard to ride and think about the engine going out while I am passing a truck at 85 MPH into on coming traffic and thinking I will make it and have the engine lock up, not many choices at that point, head on crash or run off the road, either way most likely fatal.
