 :o
So after my motorcycle finally arrives from Ohio down to Texas and after my first break-in miles, my hat goes off to Hoist  :2vrolijk_21:

I had a real hard time keeping the revs below 3500 for some of the nice long grades around Austin. I can imagine just what Hoist was going through trying to keep his motor until 2500 for any length of time.  :bigok:

Hope the weather is sunny or at least dry so you can continue to break-in that nice motor of yours.  :beerchug:

Well, it looks like I'm destined to have a well lubricated rear pipe, right side cover and right saddlebag. ::)

Got about 500 on her now. Damn thing still won't stop puking. Even with the big bead of K&N filter grease between the filter and backplate. A little better than before, but it didn't stop it. The next step is to cut the backplate where it connects to the heads, to allow room for a fitting and banjo bolt, and pipe it to the ground. Man I wish these things still breathed thru the bottom end! :nixweiss:

But the bike's still running great. I can't seem to get the oil temp above 190. Today never exceeded 177. Oil Pressure when warm at idle is 15 PSI. Motor's super quiet. Bringing it in next week for 500 mile service and oil change. Will be able to start bringing it up to 3000, then 3500 RPM before bring it in for the next service at 1000 miles. But so far, so good! :2vrolijk_21:

Hey Hoist.......glad to hear that all's well with Cybil, except for the minor inconvience of the oil misting.  I've learned to live with that on mine, esp. on longer/harder runs.........seems to be the nature of the beast.  Have thought about re-routeing, but haven't done so.......just have to clean more frequently.  All the other things that could be wrong that aren't, make me just live with it, I guess.  Ride proud, Brother!  :2vrolijk_21: har!   spyder

Thanks so much spyd! :2vrolijk_21:

That's what I'd normally do. But I have this thing so spiffy now, the puke sticks out. Not so bad when it's dirty, like usual. Maybe I'll go back to using the rain to wash it again, and not worry about the puking anymore!!! :D :D :D ;)

It's got possibilities Pete. My problem is the design of the HPI A/C backplate, which has the breather built directly into it. I'd have to cut the backplate mounts shorter to fit these in between. The trick would be getting a banjo bolt that would exit at the BG Breathers, but be long enough to get thru the HPI backplate mounts. This mount is about 2-1/2" long, not a flat backplate. They claim it as a "hidden breather system for a super clean look". There ain't nothing clean about it!  Not a great pic, but you get the idea (from HPI's site).

Is the oil misting/puking as bad as before?

Yeah, it's pretty much the same as before. Even when it was stock (for that ever brief period of time!). It drips between the element and the backplate then sprays the pipe, side cover, and saddlebag. It always has. I think venting it to the ground is the only option left. Just have to concoct a way now! ;)

Assuming that the intake has some variation of the standard mounting holes to hold the filter plate to the intake this shouldn't be a big deal.  Just take the HPI filter plate/breather assembly and an air filter to a good fabricating machine shop.   Show them the mounting holes and the long filter scrows and hot it all goes together.  Then tell them to make you something to go from "here" to "here" that is only the round plate.  Should be easy work for a competent machinist.

If it's puking that much Howie, would be best to get it to the ground.  Too bad there is not a good way to scavenge the oil back to the oil bag.

Yep, to the ground is the way to go. These are the Kuryakin fittings that Pete was talking about. I can shorten the backplate mounts to fit them behind, but I'd have to get the right length banjo bolt made. ;)
