Howie, you know better than that.  It's either tuned or it's not.  After all, you've already seen the difference with different tunes that had the bike running ok with the same hardware.

Hey, work with me here a little Don! Lemme build a motor first and see what happens from there! It's friggin FREEZING in ME now already!!! :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss: ;)

It ran like a MoFo, but too hard on the valvetrain. Any ideas gurus??

Howie, am I reading more than you're saying here?  It sounded like you really can't say where was the chicken or the egg.

If you love the way the bike ran don't you have to at least consider the fault was in the lifter and the rest of the damage followed that?  Since you can't know now is at least a potential consideration that it happened that way?

If so buy lifters, oil pump and cam plate and the small ancillary parts along with the same cam.  Keep the tune and just bolt it all back together.  Then just keep a close eye on it.

If later you you feel the cams are causing a problem replace them then.  Tune it then.  Your only redundant expense is the cams.  But you might just keep the bike running as it does.  It's a bit of a crap shoot either way after all.

Howie,

For what it's worth, I agree with Don.  Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.  Keep the same cam and go with the S&S stuff.  That lifter failure sounds like a similar one I know of with feuling.  My feuling lifters chit the bed too, S&S is the way to go.

One question just thought of Howie.  No big deal but just a clarification to know for sure.  Which Feuling lifters were in Cybil?  Was it their "standard" HP+ lifter or their Race Series?

Feuling #4050 Race Series High Performance Lifters

Thanks Howie.  Was just trying a little mental inventory and had thought of at least dozen I could remember with the HP+ lifters.  Don't remember any of those crapping out.  Could think of three or perhaps four with the race lifters.  Also think I remember yours being the second of them that had suffered a potential lifter failure.

None of that is definitive by any means.  Just making some mental notes.

man, you've been through the wringer with that bike...sorry to hear you're having problems AGAIN...bob wood and t-man both have .590" lift cams that would work at 9.8 in a 110"...for my riding style, even on a bagger, I'd want more duration than the cr595 has

Thanks skyhook. I was looking at that Woods cam last night. I'll check TMan out. Mackie's 598 looks decent too. Andrews has a 590. So there seem to be some alternatives here. Don't think I'm gonna rush this thing together. I'm pulling the top end to flush the bottom end out. Thinking of having an oil sample out for analysis to see how uch metal's in there. I'd really hate to have to pull ther motor and split the cases again. Yeah, this really sucks!!! ;)

Hoist

I have very little experience with all the other chit stuff on the market but have used Tman cams in three bikes.
Had the 590's in the Lowrider.
Best that I can tell the Tman stuff isn't the cheapest but I have always heard that pieces and parts from him are well built.
No one has ever disputed that.
He is a class act.
I was at his shop yesterday discussing my 110.

Would you please at least give Dave Mackie a call and talk to him about your issues and what you'd like you bike to do. Sorry if I sound like a broken record, but I have never heard of anyone not happy with Mackie's stuff.

I was actually paying attention to ya until that last line! ::) ;D

Looking at Revolution Performance TR-590G or TR-625G, S&S 625G, T-Man TR-590G or TR-625G, Woods TW-8G or TW-9BG, Mackie TC-598G or TC-630G, and Andrews 59HG right now. Any others to look at? I understand that Revolution performance makes the cams for most performance guys. Andrews and S&S make their own, but I'm told the RevPerf makes them for the others. Funny the cam name is the same for RevPerf and T-Man! ;)

And you are correct Neal!!! THERE WILL BE NO CYCLERAMA PARTS GOING INTO THIS MOTOR EVER AGAIN!!! ;)

Thanks Brian, I plan on talking to him later. Vern had a bad experience with him with some heads back in the day. Vern gets hung up on those kinda things. But I've heard good things about these cams, so I'll give him a shout. Ya wanna warn him about me first? ;D

That doesn't sound good at all with all you have been through with this motor and now something else!!! My thoughts would be not a miss match of parts but maybe a defective part, my first guess would be the shaft or bearings for the roller on the lifter causing the cam damage as it would take quite a bit of metal circulated through the cam chest from the cam to cause the roller to skid on the cam and if that was the case all of the lifters would show problems as well as the rest of the engine including the scoring of the return side of the oil pump. I might be missing something here as I just skimmed through the posts but that would sort the chicken from the egg. Blame the lifter first as this also might be the source of the excess oil to the top end since if the lifter wasn't operating correctly it could have been hammering on the cam causing the roller to fail.
