I got an email today from Mark at M&M Cycles and it sounds like he will be receiving his shipment of Monsters in a few days.  I should have mine some time next week.   :huepfenjump3:

Finally got my Monsters today and as luck would have it V&H only put one mounting bracket in the box.  M&M is overnighting me another one.  You have to replace the stock mounting brackets under the saddle bag with the heavy duty ones they provide.  Probably need it because these dudes are heavy.  I'll bet nearly twice what my standard ovals weigh.  Hopefully I'll get the bracket tomorrow and get the muffs installed.  I leave Friday morning for the SD State HOG Rally in Pierre.  By the time I get back home I'll have over 500 miles on them so I will provide a report to all at that time.

Sounds like you may have to put a little more air in the shocks.  Mark is 1st rate.  Waiting for the report and have a safe trip.

Well guys, I got the Monster Ovals installed tonight on my '06 SE Ultra.  I'm also running the V&H True Duals.  Certainly a different sound than the standard V&H ovals I took off.  The Monsters are not as loud as the standard ovals and have a much deeper sound without the raspy bark I sometimes got from the std. ovals.  I'll know more after I get back from our weekend trip.  Didn't get a chance to run down the highway with them as it started to rain shortly after I left the garage.  I did take a few pictures and will attempt to post them here.  Had to take them in the garage due to the rain.

I've got the PC III and the bike was running great with the std. ovals.  I don't expect much if any change in performance.  I'll run it "as is" for a while.  If the bike runs like it did before with the PC map I was using I don't think I'll bother to get a re-tune.

Most complain about the size of the S&S SPO's. But if ya like these V&H trash cans, ya really should look at the SPO's again. Looks-ahhhh! Performance-that's another story! Exhaust is a touchy subject, to each their own. Performance, that's another story! All I can say is F keeping up with the Jones'! ???

For TD's that is! But 2:1, that's a different ball game! Now you're talking! ;)

I wanna hear my SPO's next ot a set of these ovals!

And now I'm worried about the whole "beefier mount because of the weight" thing.  I didn't change the mounts when I put on the SPO's.  does that mean they're gonna fall off!?! :'(

Well guys, here's my update report on the Monsters after putting over 500 miles on them this weekend.

I'm still not sure if I like the Monsters better than the regular ovals.  I'm really in a quandary as to what I'm going to do.  I may just put the regular ovals back on to compare.  I do know that I'm going to need a re-tune if I stay with the Monsters.  The bike just doesn't run like it did before.  My wife prefers the sound of the Monsters but I'm just not sure.  Bear in mind that everyone hears differently.  As for myself I have some hearing lose in the higher frequencies and the lower tones seem to be amplified.  The Monsters certainly have a low deep rumble and do not crack like the regular ovals when you pop the throttle.  But I can't say they are any quieter than the regular ovals.  Just a totally different sound.  Coolbreeze wants to hear them next to his SPO's.  I think it would be an interesting comparison.  About 300 of the miles that I put on I was wearing a 3/4 helmet with face shield.  I think the helmet cuts out high freqencies and make the low sounds louder.  At times the low deep rumble of the Monsters was annoying inside my helmet.  Not nearly as bad when I went helmetless.

My brother-inlaw and his wife rode with us to the SD HOG Rally and he thought the Monster sounded better than my old ovals.  The Monsters did draw attention at the Rally and I think everyone that heard them liked the sound.  But most people like that low deep rumble.  I do too, just not sure I like the overall sound that much better than my regular ovals.

Look guys, I'm only trying to report my feelings and opinions here.  And I'm unsure at this point. Like everything else and other mufflers included.  Some will love the Monster and others will hate them.  I have never heard the SPO's but I have a feeling that the two probably sound somewhat similar.  I do know that the Monsters are a heck of a lot better looking than the SPO's.  IMHO.

Hopefully there will be a few others on this site that get a set of Monsters and will report their opinions.

Thanks for your honest report, Zeb.  Like you stated, everyone's perception of sound is different.  Some people think the Ovals are loud and others not loud enough.  It will be interesting to see what  others think of the sound of the Monsters as others receive theirs.
