No problem keeping it 10 years because you can always replace the disposable motor parts.  Been doing that for years with these scooters.  I think it's the MoCo's 'plan'.  har.  spyder

Let us know how the fan units work when you are sitting still in traffic for hours and just creeping along on a very hot day.  There was some excellent advice on how to make it run cooler than the Moco is allowed to do due to regulations.  You do make a point that the Moco could have done something that would help in that area, just not confident that hey would have made a significant improvement.   I went through the same thing when I had the 110 in my 08 it gets unacceptably hot.  It's your bike and your decision.

I'm surprised to see so many people referring to the 96 as being hot. I rode a 2010 Heritage for over five years and never thought that bike was running hot. I only had it stock for a couple of weeks before doing the stage 1 cleaner and long shots, but the Vulcan 1600 I had before it felt much hotter, and my 110 is an oven when the temps approach and exceed 90 F.

I believe the original question was "What causes the excessive heat in the 110's"  All my responces were geared towards the 110.  But I think this post has gone off track a few times, I don't know if the person who posted the question got the answers he was looking for, I hope so.

I'm curious what percentage of the heat problem is caused by the following:

Cams (lack of overlap)

Head design

Air/fuel ratio

What do some of you heavy-duty gearheads think?  -If I'm missing a point or two, feel free to add items.
Already covered, but EPA regs driving the Moco to do everything they can come up with to sqeeeeeeeeeak thru.

Yes it is.

Used to believe heat causation for internal combustion engines was combustion and friction.  Am almost certain now it is due to the Global Warming.

I was willing to blame Global Warming but now am concerned about Over Capitalization.  That or an AFR that's too just too low to get the job done within the emissions environment.  But I know it's one or the other of those way way complicated things (that can be re-written to take pages and pages and sound gawd-awful impressive when said with your chin leaning down and your eyes looking up).

Finally a logical answer to the age old problem...   :2vrolijk_21:

That capital letter post was scary, I couldn't read it, just kept getting off line.. Not sure why everyone wants to blame the EPA and say all those awful things. EPA has made our sky and water alot more clear. And if you haven't noticed cars don't have the heat problems we have and are very FAST and handle wonderful. But we CHOOSE to ride twin-cylinder air (for the most part) cooled motorcycles with engines approaching 2.0 litre's that generate massive heat with less useable fin (cooling) area than a EVO had.
The fans help, I had them, a tune helps, I had that, removing the cat helps, I did that, but my 09 SERG was still uncomfortable in traffic to the point I got dismayed and almost quit riding. My 15 is much better, has only a FP3 and 1.75 Fulsac inserts and can be ridden in the Florida traffic without a major problem whereas the 09 never could so in my opinion the water has helped.
Didn't say anything here that was not already said, just wanted to voice my opinion.

Getting one of the bikes that run perfect out of the box and never have an issue these days to me is like trying to grab the little stuffed animal out of the pile in the glass box with the slippery chrome claw. It can be done once in awhile. And lucky are you if you get one. ;D
