The guy put a 67HG cam in it. I guess that's a pretty high lift cam. But it lost too much torque down low. Runs great on the hiway. I suspect I will end up swapping the cylinders to an aftermarket one without the history of slippage. My plan is to cash in my extended warranty and forget about dealing with dealerships again.

Maybe you could try the new gaskets and get the dealer to help out with the cost of new Axtell cylinders.  -Might be worth asking.  It's still under warranty, and they know what they've done so far isn't working.

Too late for me. I will never take my bike to another dealer again. I just don't think they have the skills to do much right. The ones I know of out here of messed up oil changes, tire changes, brake jobs and the list goes on. Best I can tell, they have untrained teenagers doing most of those things. I'd rather take it to a place where I can talk to a real mechanic that will be working on my bike.

Yup, I agree....my last trip for a dealer item, they could not even wash the bike, they sprayed some sort of wheel cleaner on the rims and stained them...When I asked about it they became beligerent...I told them why dont you GFY and have never been back, even bought the last bike a differnt dealer 3 hours away.  I don;t know if they are any better...It is a shame.

What cam did they put in and what are you planning to go to?  Agree with Chief, unlikely you got the 'B' version last Sept.  First I heard of it was last Dec.

I agree. I had mine done in Dec 2007 and it was the "A" gasket.

Maybe your dealer can invest in one of those new fangled "torque wrenches".  :drink:

I'd like to add one thought to the gasket leak problem.  I've had both an '07 and now an '08, both with the same leaks as all of you.

The '07 was repaired twice, the second time we asked the moco to OK a five pound torque increase from the factory sequence; it was approved by "tech services".  The gaskets were the multi layer Cometic style.  I sold that bike to a friend, and to date it's still holding at 6k since the repair.

The '08 began leaking at 2500mi.  This time we replaced the cylinders, and used the new composite gasket, again with the moco approval, increased the torque five pounds.  I've only got 3k since this rebuild, but so far so good.

Those of you still dealing with the leak, you might consider asking your tech to increase the torque and tell them "tech services" has approved it before, if you ask for it.

I'm crossing my fingers that both of the bikes continue to hold!

The factory method ends up at about 33# after the 90 deg turn.  The increased torque after the 90 degrees turned out to be almost 39-40# with the extra 5#; which still isn't much when you consider the caliper to fork spec is 40#.

It's very frustrating that we have to, in effect, fix our own bikes because the moco is not interested in producing a quality product; they're only interested in how much money they can cheat so many loyal customers out of.  I know that's pretty harsh, but if the "shoe fits"!

Man, that blows big time. You consider going over this hill to Yuillbros (Freedom Cycle) and get a decent set of cams?
Or bring it down to Jims(HD Dude) shop? MOCO is really tripping over their privates to not let these failures get out into the mainstream industry press.  >:(

Well my 07 is apart and my builder does not want to use the stock jugs. He contacted Revolution and they don't make one for the 110 motor but they did agree to custom make a pair. Should have those in about 3 weeks. I'm going with their NickleSil jugs so the bike should run much cooler. The dealership rebuilt the motor twice already so we will change out the studs. According to my builder, when he measured the deck height it was +20 mils.  :o

The good news is, everything else will be done and waiting on the jugs. I hate missing out on 3 weeks of riding but a friend is loaning me one of his bikes this weekend.  ;D

I hope they do a better job on your liners. I did a 98" with Niksai Liner and they were over size and I developed piston slap. Ended up costing me another build with stock bored cyclinders. I think Axtell would be a better choice.  :shocked2:

Interesting Brad. I was told the same thing which is why I went with the Axtells. I have no first hand experience with them, but the engine designer told me this when I asked about it, and told me not to use them. :nixweiss:
