Finished installing passing lamps. Was going to leave turn signals on handlebars then decided to move them down. Glad I did. Really happy with the way it looks.

Lost in a pile of receipts!! OCD has taken my eyes and wallet to the cleaner.

I went to the shop for Part 's, as I said I would. However, when I reached the parts and service dept, my loyal and respected parts man was long gone.

I went to the remaining staff, and almost in unison, they said ask "Steve".

I went home to look up the receipts. You must know I have like 80 to 100 receipts for three bikes over the last 4 years. But, I am OCD anal, and I have the receipts, in order. Except they are printed in some internal code with jibber jabber for description. I have a degree from UCLA. I could have one from MIT and never understand what the printing on the receipts really means.

So I went back to the store, still no Steve. His crew, not knowing the invoicing program, said;  in unison: "Ask Steve". I told them "It appears Steve is no longer on the planet, for at least another hour". Wait till he gets back, is all they said.

Back home, searched and searched....whaa    whaa      :rolleyes4:  Now I am blind.

I will do my best to recover my eyesight, find Steve (he's my neighbor, did I tell you?) get the correct part numbers posted, in an expedient fashion, upon discovery of such people or numbers.

Sorry for the delays brothers and sisters. I just received confirmed word on the PIAA bulbs...

In the headlight, PIAA bulbs "H11" or H eleven, and "H8" or H eight.

I was told at first, that the same bulbs were used in both positions. I turns out they were wired backwards, and had to be corrected. So, I am not sure which one goes where, but those are the two PIAA numbers used in my headlight.

Yes. In fact I didn't leave the shop with stock bulbs. However, they were not PIAA, and it shows.

The parts man asked if I would try a new third party bulb until the PIAA bulbs were available. I said sure...

Within one week, the "dipped ends" of blue were fraying off from the center. I can't get a good shot of this on my camera until I remove the bulb. I took it back to the HD Dealer, and explained my position to the parts man.

He's currently looking into the situation, and will hopefully get back to me this week.

On a positive note, the Passing lamps were very bright, with hyper white/blue tint that gave off a very nice beam of light. I tested this in the stretch above Santa Barbara, CA towards Pismo Beach, CA. A very fast, very dark beach run. I had to give the entire setup a thumbs up until the fraying of the Aux Lamps.

The only other item that makes me think twice about doing this on a future bike is the lack of interchangeable turn signals. The hardware didn't match up, so I had to purchase new signals. Looks great, but no good reason for the lack of compatibility except profits. That's what gets me every time.

kona76 - Great looking bike!  Quick question (and probably dumb) - are the replacement passing lights over 35w each?  My parts guys are concerned that if we run the 55 watt super bright passing lights it will create to much heat and fry something - either the bulb or the wiring or the housing.  Does anybody else have this concern, or does a 35 watt super bright bulb exist  (brand name - where to buy)?

Ride Safe.

https://www.eautoworks.com/ Check this place out. They have a lot of bulbs. The ones you need are H11, H8 AND 881. High beam, low beam and passing lamps.

I use the PIAA Xtreme White bulbs now, that are replacements for the halogen bulbs in the HD spots (if ya have halogens, not sealed beams). Very noticible difference! :2vrolijk_21:

I replaced the passing lamp bulbs with the same manufacturers bulbs for over 4 weeks now. I noticed the fraying on one of the bulb "dipped" tips again. I'm sure they will replace the bulb again, however, I can't even begin to recommend using these bulbs until some quality control is applied.

Only one side this time, I'll try to post a shot of the problem before end of day.

Thankfully, the ease of replacing each bulb is mindless. But to be a few hundred miles away and have the tips peel back is last thing on the agenda when I'm off to see my daughter.

I want PIAA but no availability from the mfg, yet.
