Congrats bro! Good luck with it! :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Can't wait to help ya break it in next weekend when I get to see how lil ole Cybil can do against them big guns of yours now!!! ::) :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: ;D

BTW, keep any eye on the muffler. Looks like it's separating already. Remember mine at your house. Look under the saddlebag amd make sure it's not pulling past the rear mount! You'll probably need to pin it there like I did before I left you last time! ;)

First things first.  Ken, it's great to see you've finally got the bike home.  And even better to read that your first impressions are good ones.  If you decide to visit Golden's dyno just say the word and I'll clear the crap that's collected out of the spare room.  Anytime :2vrolijk_21: .

Those mufflers....  Both of mine have walked back.  In fact I watched it walk back and forth under acceleration and deceleration on John's dyno the day the Road Glide was there.  Both bikes have done it and both bikes I thought I had the clamp tight.

Mine seems to have been solved without putting a pin in it as Howie described.  After they'd gone through a few heating and cooling cycles I got on the clamps again.  Harder then I thought should have been necessary.  And did it while the pipes were still hot.  After that neither of them has walked back again.  Just FYI.

D&D says to use a hi temp exhaust cement/sealer to seal it and keep it from walking back. The pinning worked out well so far for me, and is very easy to do. You just need to drill a hole in the galvanized bar that the muffler bolts up to, drop a screw in it with a few nuts on it. It can't pull thru the clamp that holds the rubber mounted galvanized clamp that way. ;)

I don't remember that in their docs.  Then again I don't remember reading the docs.  So.....  :nixweiss:

If mine move again I'll try that.  Though I'd prefer not to if it can be avoided.  Easier to take off again (and they've both already been back off at least once) if the pieces aren't cemented together.

That's why I pinned it. Retightening the clams didn't help mine! ;)

Maybe use a small band clamp like those used on diesel exhausts and race cars.

You're smarter than you look Howie. It's seperating. Mine is made a little different than your's. It looks like it might be a little easier to pin actually.

Ken are you grinning from ear to ear?  With that BIG MOTOR you are going to have to tighten up on your BIBBS... to keep them from flapplin at those high speeds  ;D

Funny you should mention that. That's EXACTLY what happened. I couldn't keep them fastened until I took up the straps tighter, giving me a full time wedgie.

Thanks Don, I'll try that while the pipes are hot.

Right now the engine is awesome sounding. I can just tell the power is there, but the more I ride it, the more I can tell it needs a good tune. The dyno at the dealer was down again, and he just went with a base map. I'll take it back in Monday or Tuesday, drop the oil, and try and get a little better tune. After that...1,000-2,000 miles, and maybe go see John.

We bumped in to each other today (John and I).  He's home for a bit and had missed two rally events with a dead cylinder in the motorhome that pulls the dyno trailer.  In chassis rebuild on that Cummins probably makes replacing or rebuilding our little v-twins seems like pocket change.

Not sure how much longer he's home before they start picking the road back up again.  If the time comes and you feel the need you know he'll make it as good as it can be though.  And we'll drink beers and fart and eat pizza and chicken wings.

OH great...I'm good at farting..well...and eating too...and now that I think about...drinking beer.

Oh...I've got an idea about the Cummins...I just bought a rebuilt one for a crane....About the cost of a small home.

Ken,

Great to hear your back on the road and lovin' it.   :2vrolijk_21:

I'll bet JD is glad to have the Ultra back too.  I know how much she loved riding the V-rod...NOT!   :D

It sounds to me like you need to get over here to Joplin for a weekend of riding and  :drink: and if Don can't get all the parts cleaned out of his spare room, you can always stay with us.  If you don't mind the dogs, the cats, the kids...so on and so on...

Later,
Travis

I'm going to give the dealer one more shot to get a better tune. If he can't, That's my plan Travis. I'll let ya know. I want you to buy me supper anyhow.

If Travis is buying I'll be there too.  And I already started clearing the exhaust pipes and other stuff off your bed (that's how much faith I have in dealerships generally).

No problem.  As soon as you get here, we'll ride down to the local general store and pick up some stakes and and "ready to bake" taters.   :2vrolijk_21:

Will you be bringing some ribaroni to go with the stakes?   :huepfenlol2:
