Sad to say, the MoCo isn't about to smarten up anytime soon. Bubba_T and I rode around San Diego County today and visited the local H-D dealerships. In spite of huge layoffs and losses by H-D, all dealerships were still doing business as usual. No deals on new motorcycles, ridiculous prices on used ones. Parts and accessories at list price. If I woke up tomorrow morning as CEO of H-D Inc, the first thing I'd do is issue an edict that prices of new motorcycles were to be slashed by 10%. Next I'd institute a program where a custom could order his/her H-D with the motor, wheels, seat of their choice. Beyond that, I'd be coming down hard on any dealer with excess inventory unwilling to offer discounts on new and used motorcycles as well as P&A. And finally, the full wrath of the MoCo's Legal Dept would be brought to bear on any dealer with a less than normal amount of warranty claims. (seems like that'd be a good indicated that dealer was denying claims independantly of the Factory) And the list goes on. Now if I can figure all that out without having attended the Wharton School of Business, seems like a guy making several million bucks a year should be able to as well. I'm glad I don't want a new H-D. Their not gonna be around much longer at this rate.
