Wind buffeting on the new FLHTCUSE3
« on: April 19, 2008, 02:20:41 PM »

Hi Guys,
HELP!  I went for a ride out on the new Duracell and was surprised at the amount of wind buffeting I got at over 60mph.  The wind nearly shook my head off at one point and I had to duck down behind the windshield.  The windshield I have on is stock, and is just 9 1/2" high in the centre.  I can see a clear 6" over the top in my normal sitting position.  I believe the standard height of a windshield is supposed to be 12", although I see some of you guys riding with just the wind deflector which is about 4" high!  Your heads must be bolted on!
I would sure appreciate some advice on this before I go and shell out some cash for a new windshield that may be too small or large!
 ;) :nixweiss:

I hated the windshield on my 07. The curve at the top just dumped the wind in my face.

I solved the problem..... www.clearviewshields.com 12.5 recurve. Love it!

We have a thread on the Clearview shields in the vendor discount section, try reading through that for some ideas.
http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=4606.0

It sounds like your situation with the 9 inch shield is similar to my situation with the original 6 inch on my SEEG;  depending on wind direction and speed my head felt like a speed bag.  A change to a 9 inch shield helped the buffeting immensely, but it puts the top edge of the shield directly in my preferred line of sight unless I force myself to sit up straight.  The recurve Clearview sounds like a good way to get the still air at forehead level and still be able to see easily over the shield.

The Clearview recurve is wonderful. Sends wind up like the shield is an inch or two taller.  HOWEVER, while it sends wind up, bugs and rain don't seem to get the idea and still come straight into your face.  :mask:
I'm ready to order one a little higher.  I hope another inch will make a difference.

I like to ride with a baseball cap, so I put on a Clearview 12 Inch with the recurve smoked, I look over the top of the windshield by about 2 inches and love it. i can ride on a windy day with no problems.

Thanks a lot for your help guys.  I am normally crap at making a decision, but having read about Clearview Shields that did it. I am about to order the 12" with a recurve.  Damn, still cant decide to go for a vent or not! ;)

Thanks for your help!

Jazz,
I'm 6' 4 and the 12" recurve is awesome. I've had mine a couple months and I'm ordering a recurve for my Road Glide as well.

Can you put the recurve on an Ultra?

They have a model for the ultra.  It was the first thing I ordered after buying the bike, and well worth it!

Besides less buffeting, there is almost no distortion, even at the top edge.
