My theory on why some wear at a much faster rate than others is because of different chain vendors.....some of the chains I've seen have very sharp edges and others don't.........I've talked to some Techs that believe this to be the case as opposed to the theory of riding styles. Also, the newer type shoes are not showing the same premature wear, so I'm being told. I also have 54K on mine and they are not worn excessively. spyder
Have heard the same on the newer shoes, Spyder. Techs have told me the same info - chain causing wear due to type/manufacturer (your sharp edges reference). Have also heard that oil selection/type has little to do with this issue - mostly a chain issue causing wear on tensioners.
Are you staying with the chain drive? When do you think they will need to be replaced? Have seen some that lasted 70k.
